  • Disney's live-action remakes are usually awful and clear cash grabs that attempt to capitalize on old popular franchises while adding nothing new, in my opinion. However, The Jungle Book was amazing, with jaw-dropping visual effects and character designs and an exciting, action-packed plot that feels both familiar and expansive all at the same time.

  • I mean, I guess this is one of the better Disney live action remakes? That is not a high bar, and there's still an uncanny quality to some of the CGI that makes this inherently more appealing in the 2D animated space. Still, some great voice acting performances that make this partially worth the watch.

  • With its stellar visuals and direction and willingness to try new things while still respecting the original story, The Jungle Book is a rare example of a live-action Disney remake succeeding at not making itself a redundant retread of the original animated film, even being better than it, in some regards. As divisive as Disney's live-action remakes might be, The Jungle Book is one of the only ones not worth skipping, and that only becomes truer and truer as time goes on.

Synopsis

Disney's live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book brings the original Rudyard Kipling story to life, telling the story of Mowgli the Man-Cub (Neel Sethi) as he is cared for by the animals of the jungle. Raised by wolves and taught to hunt by the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), Mowgli also befriends the carefree bear, Baloo (Bill Murray). However, the tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) wants to kill Mowgli, forcing him to assess whether or not the jungle is a safe place for a human.
