  • It starts out as a formulaic scary cabin film but gives you one hell of a twist!!!

  • A comedy slasher that reveals itself to be in on the joke, following not only the teens about to be slaughtered by a horror movie villain, but also the team behind the scenes who's so jaded to the violence that they're taking bets on the murders. A great meta commentary on horror movie tropes from Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon, who know a thing or two about them.

  • This movie is chaotic, and I really appreciate it for it. It is hardly the first meta horror, and it wouldn't be the last, as a group of teens stumble into a terrifying situation, yet this time we all know it's a set-up. Seeing the organization's workers set every slasher moment up, from taking bets on what will happen to manipulating the environment is an interesting additional perspective, with the movie even going as far to humanise them as somewhat reluctant and acting for the greater good. I feel the group of survivors are the least interesting part of the movie, but they are still played endearingly enough that you feel for them

  • Kind of over the whole meta thing by now, but this movie does it really well. Love how much it loves horror films while also being extremely horrifying in its own right. The ending was absurd. Great cast of characters and gnarly kills.

  • The Cabin in the Woods is a classic horror movie that incorporates meta-humor, many jump scares, and an incredible twist ending (no spoilers, though). The whole movie is essentially an homage to the genre.

Synopsis

The Cabin in the Woods strictly follows the traditional slasher movie dynamic: a group of teens heads to a remote location for the weekend only to find themselves beset by monsters. However, what they don't know is that the inevitable horrors they will face have all been arranged by a mysterious team watching from a facility deep underground.

Anyone willing to suspend a bit of disbelief and not get too bogged down in the film's logic will likely be ready for an entertaining and worthwhile experience.
