  • Since I'm a horror novel writer, I love watching the Babadook and I just love horror movies.

  • Maybe not an actual Pride Month icon haha, but the Babadook is nonetheless iconic. The film has a great portrayal of trauma, and distinctive visuals that keep the film going throughout.

  • This is already what I thought motherhood was like, I didn't need a scary movie to tell me twice. The horror is having a kid you can't control, who sometimes seems monstrous, and is permanently attached to you, dragging you down. An icon.

  • The Babadook is a tense and frightening psychological horror. It is pretty scary, with a lot of effective jumpscares. Surprisingly, the film also has a shockingly poignant message about grief amidst all of the creepy monster scenes.

Synopsis

The Babadook, directed by Jennifer Kent, explores the struggles of a single mother grieving her husband's death while confronting her son's fear of a lurking monster. As they contend with this unseen entity, the sinister presence grows increasingly pervasive in their lives.
