  • Obviously not as good as the first one, nor as politically charged. Interesting choice to make Del Toro's character the main here given where the first film ends. Isabela Merced is great in this as well. Some misguided politics in this one but also thrilling from start to finish.

Synopsis

In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, FBI agent Matt Graver s forces with assassin Alejandro Gillick when a the war between drug cartels along the US-Mexico border reaches a tipping point. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin reprise their roles from Denis Villeneuve's first movie, but Stefano Sollima replaces the original movie's director.

Day of the Soldado is a competent thriller but, without the original Sicario's artistic flourishes and substance, it's somewhat forgettable.
