  • As wonderfully horrifying as Shin Godzilla's version of Godzilla might be, the film is ultimately brought down by uninteresting human characters and a slow and meandering script that's more concerned with talking about Godzilla than actually doing anything with him. Shin Godzilla was the first of Hideaki Anno's dark tokusatsu reboots, and unfortunately, that lack of expertise shows itself more often than not.

  • Breathtaking and terrifying movie, and especially satisfying for Godzilla fans. The music and sound effects are some of the best from the Toho movies, and make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Seeing Shin in his final form brings forward feelings of dread, but the protagonist keeps a driving force of hope and strategy. Incredible use of music and visuals for an intense impact. My favorite Godzilla film!

  • One of the better movies in the long running Godzilla franchise. Hideaki Anno does some miraculous stuff here given that it is probably a bit lower budget than it should have been. Love how it is informed by the Fukushima disaster which is the perfect way to modernize the character while also keeping a lot of the themes that made it so compelling in the original.
