  • Eddie Murphy is compelling in a movie whose core premise is a little too inside baseball for those not situated in the geography and time period that originated it. The idea of a Detroit cop working in Beverly Hills really doesn't feel shocking enough to build a movie around.

  • The movie showcases Eddie Murphy's stellar performance in a film that, to me, felt average. The pacing is not even, and I was often unsure about the setting and timeline. However, Murphy’s comedic talent and charisma make the film a worthwhile watch if you're in the mood for a popcorn flick. Also, the film’s lasting appeal is one of its most impressive features, greatly helped by its great casting choices and sharp, witty script.

9/10

Released early in Eddie Murphy's career, Beverly Hills Cop is still the best example of exactly why his star rose so quickly.
