Original Suspiria Star Calls Remake "Brilliantly Scary"

Original best horror movies ever made, and remains Argento's crowning achievement.

Suspiria was also the first in a trilogy dubbed The Three Mothers. The second film was 1980's Inferno, which was unfortunately buried by American distributor 20th Century Fox and released straight to video when the new studio head took a dislike to it. That aside, the film is now considered a worthy follow-up and arguably Argento's most underrated work. The final part was 2007's belated Mother Of Tears but despite featuring some creative gore, it was considered a huge disappointment by fans.

A Suspiria remake has been in development since 2008, with David Gordon Green (attached to helm the project. Ultimately Luca Guadagnino took over directing duties, with the film's cast including Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Tilda Swinton. The movie also features a cameo by original star Jessica Harper, who took to Facebook recently to lavish praise on the remake and its director:

I have seen this movie–the most brilliantly scary film I have ever seen. [Director] Luca [Guadagnino]’s Call Me By Your Name does not prepare you for it, but throws into relief the director’s brilliance and versatility.

That's pretty high praise, especially considering Harper is essentially saying she considers the new Suspiria scarier than the original. The hype machine for the movie is starting to warm up, with Amazon recently debuting a teaser poster and premiering gory footage at CinemaCon. The sequence in question involved a dancer's body being contorted and twisted to the point of bones breaking through skin and was labeled as disturbing and sickening by some in attendance.

Suspiria is a big change of pace for director Luca Guadanino following the romance of Call Me By Your Name, but it turns out the director is a huge fan of Argento's original. He promised that while his version will pay homage to the 1977 movie, it will be something entirely different.
