Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 3, episode 6

A comment in Superman & Lois season 3 proves the show has completely retconned Jordan’s power level. Since the beginning of the series, Alex Garfin’s character has been on a journey to discover and master his Kryptonian abilities. By this point, Jordan has seemingly developed nearly every power associated with the Kryptonian race.

Jordan is still learning, of course, but he’s already accomplished a great deal, which is impressive when considering his young age. As evidenced by his fights against Bizarro Jonathan and others, he was already a force to be reckoned with by the end of season 2. He can even fly. The fast progress he’s been making shows that he’s well on his way to becoming a superhero. In fact, he clearly has what it takes now to fight alongside Superman. His emotional maturity may still be in question, but his abilities certainly aren’t in doubt. Equipped with his own costume, Jordan is shaping up to hold the role of a full-fledged superhero by season 3’s end.

Superman & Lois Season 1 Already Established Jordan’s Limits

Just how powerful Jordan has become was on display in Superman & Lois season 3, episode 6, titled “Of Sound Mind.” Following the fight with Onomatopoeia and Bruno Mannheim’s minions, Superman marveled at Jordan’s surprising reaction to Kryptonite and remarked that his son’s human side might make him even stronger than Clark. Regardless of whether that can actually happen, the comment stands in stark contrast with what the series already established about his limits. After an examination, Jor-El declared in season 1 that because Jordan was only half-Kryptonian, he would never possess more than one-hundredth of Superman’s power.

Clearly, Superman & Lois has outgrown its original promise regarding Jordan’s potential. The days when Jordan was disappointed that he would never be capable of the things his father can do appear to be a forgotten phase in the character’s life. As the story developed, it was worth wondering if Jordan had already gone beyond Jor-El’s calculation, especially when looking at how well he’s able to do in battle with other Superman & Lois characters. Now, after Clark’s assessment of him, the show’s retcon of his power level has been cemented.

Is Jordan Really Stronger Than Superman?

The idea that Jordan could even potentially become stronger than Superman erases any questions about whether Jordan has exceeded his original limits, but also creates a new discussion at the same time. Before season 3, there was no reason to believe that Jordan could ever be on Superman’s level, but Clark’s speculations in Superman & Lois season 3 have put that possibility on the table. But as things stand right now, though, Superman is still physically superior by a wide margin. Since Superman has long been depicted as the most powerful character in its universe, Jordan suring Clark would take an even more drastic change to the show’s lore.
