A number of questions were left unanswered by the Morgan Edge’s plans for Smallville have been complicated by various twists and turns that the main characters didn’t expect, such as Edge’s transformation into the Kryptonian killing machine known as the Eradicator. After 14 episodes, it all culminated in one last battle with the Eradicator (Adam Rayner) and Zeta-Rho (A.C. Peterson) in Superman & Lois season 1, episode 15, “Last Sons of Krypton”.
Earlier, it was thought that while Edge was still on the table, at least his scheme to restore his lost homeworld on Earth by possessing humans with Kryptonians had been foiled. However, the penultimate episode revealed that Edge becoming the Eradicator made this plan even easier for him to realize. With his new powers, he was able to turn humans into Kryptonian allies for himself at will, thus making him one of the most dangerous foes Clark has ever fought in his superhero career. To make matters worse, Jordan (Alex Garfin) was taken over by Zeta-Rho, the true mastermind behind all of Edge’s operations in Smallville.
Given everything that was on the line, it was no surprise that all the major characters pitched in to save their town, with even the Cushings and Chrissy Beppo (Sofia Hasmik) doing what they could to help. Meanwhile, the Kents and John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) worked together to bring down Edge for good and save Jordan from Zeta-Rho’s control. Thanks to significant contributions from each member of the united group, they were able to stop the villains from getting what they wanted, allowing them all to move on with their lives. But although chapter has been closed, some questions still linger, while others were opened up by the events of the finale.
What Happened To Morgan Edge?
Supposedly, the cost of becoming the Eradicator was death. However, Edge returning to his senses and telling Clark that all he wanted was a family in the aftermath confirms that the character wasn’t killed by his sacrifice. Instead, his consciousness was repressed by the Eradicator until it was purged from his body by the blow from Steel’s hammer. Edge’s survival sets up a return for the character in season 2, but not necessarily as a villain. Since he’s sure to be in the custody of the military or ARGUS, Edge may be incapable of posing a threat for the time being. As for what purpose he might serve, it could be that Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) will begrudgingly seek his counsel on Kryptonian matters now that he can’t turn to Jor-El (Angus Macfayden).
How Did Nat Arrive After The Crisis?
The shocking arrival of Natalie Irons (Tayler Buck) in the season finale’s last scene raises a great deal of confusion over the state of the multiverse after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Since the Crisis ended, it’s been understood that doppelgangers have been removed from the equation now that all of the events in the Arrowverse take place on just one Earth, Earth-Prime. Superman & Lois changed the rules a bit with John Henry Irons, but he was an exception that made sense, considering that his battle with a Zod-possessed Superman coincided with the destruction of the multiverse. He escaped his Earth and arrived on Earth-Prime at just the right time. Nat, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. It’s not clear yet how the Arrowverse will explain her presence. Her Earth has supposedly been gone for a while now, so has she been drifting out in space ever since the Crisis eliminated her world?
What Does Nat's Arrival Mean For The Kents?
Steel may be over the moon knowing that Nat still lives, but it remains to be seen what impact this may have on the Kents. It’s not going to be lost on Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) or her sons that Nat is her daughter from another timeline, so that’s certainly going to create some family problems for the Kents to deal with in the first few episodes of season 2. It’s also worth wondering what measures Nat may take against Superman (if any). She, like her father, may have to be convinced that he’s a force for good on Earth-Prime.
Did Anyone Else Cross Over To Earth-Prime?
Superman & Lois now has two exceptions to the post-Crisis rules, but does it really stop there? If they pulled it off, others could have managed it as well. In fact, there could be other survivors from Nat’s Earth, namely Evil Superman. It’s possible that he or perhaps some other villain followed Nat’s ship to Earth-Prime, which would allow Superman & Lois season 2 to use its Nat reveal to set up the next antagonist.
What Will General Lane’s Season 2 Role Be?
General Lane (Dylan Walsh) has retired from the military, thus opening the door for him to have a new role in season 2. His comments about prioritizing his family indicates that he’ll maintain and possibly strengthen his ties to the Kents in the months to come, but what exactly he’ll be able to contribute is hard to say at this juncture. Regardless, he won’t have the authority and resources that he had in season 1. It could be that another military figure will fill his shoes when another villain emerges.
Where Is Lara’s Sunstone Crystal & Will Clark Find It?
One loose end from earlier in the season that wasn’t addressed in the season 1 finale is the whereabouts of Lara’s sunstone crystal. Multiple references have teased it being important, but at no moment in the battle with the Eradicator did it actually come into play. What is known about it is that hers was stolen a long time ago, presumably by Zeta-Rho since there was one on Edge’s ship. In Edge’s flashbacks, he sought to use the crystal to speak with Lara, but was forbidden from doing so by his father.
Many people speculated that Superman & Lois was building up to Clark discovering Lara’s crystal and using it to beat the Eradicator, given that she’s the one who created the device in the first place. While that didn’t happen, Lara’s crystal could still be a factor in season 2. If Clark were to find it and create a new Fortress of Solitude to replace the one that was destroyed, Lara’s AI could succeed Jor-El as Clark’s guide and his link to Krypton.
