Despite multiple heroes appearing in Superman: Legacy and recent DC announcements, Justice League is not happening anytime soon, reveals James Gunn. One of DC Studios' most anticipated movies in Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters," is Superman: Legacy, the latest reimagination of the Man of Steel. David Corenswet is set to play Clark Kent, a.k.a. the titular hero in the reboot, with Gunn helming it both as a writer and director.

While Superman: Legacy isn't set to start principal photography until 2024, that hasn't stopped several rumors and theories from floating around about the film. However, it didn't take long for James Gunn to help clear the air about what is actually going on.

James Gunn Debunks Justice League Speculation

At San Diego Comic-Con, a Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths animated movie was announced, which sparked some speculation if this was a soft setup for Gunn's DC Universe. When asked by @anikendra_nath_jha on Threads if this was actually the case, Gunn simply responded with "No."

David Zaslav Rumor about Justice League

At the same time, a separate false rumor emerged that the reason Superman: Legacy was featuring multiple superheroes was because of pressure from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in order to showcase DC's worth to potential buyers. However, when @scott.moyers.9 checked with Gunn if this was true, the DC Studios co-CEO debunked the report by commenting, "Of course not."

What Roles Will The DC Heroes Have In Superman: Legacy?

David Corenswet imagined as Clark in Superman: Legacy between Mister Terrific and Metamorpho from DC Comics

As of right now, Superman: Legacy will feature Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced,) Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion,) Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi,) and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan,) four heroes that have Justice League in various versions. It's unclear if Gunn is adding more heroes or not, as casting news is currently put on pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. However, Gunn has already had to address the inclusion of other costumed crime-fighters popping up in Superman: Legacy without spoiling too much about the story.

With the DC Universe, superheroes are already established in this continuity, including Superman himself, as the reboot won't be focusing on telling his origin story again. Instead, this will be following a younger Man of Steel set in a work where heroes are active in their careers. For Superman: Legacy, Gunn stated that these new cast "are there to help tell Superman's story better," rather than have his film serve as a launching pad for spinoff projects. If anything, they will have ing roles, which could mean them having only a handful of scenes.

Time will tell what else Gunn has in store with Superman: Legacy, since announcements regarding the DCU can't really be made until the strikes are over, which includes the Writers Guild of America strike. Since Superman: Legacy will be the true beginning of DC Studios' new attempt at a shared continuity, there will likely be many more questions answered before the movie itself releases, in order to set audience expectations. Hopefully, more Superman: Legacy updates will be coming out in the next few months.
