The Summer of Superman is officially kicking off, and with James Gunn’s Superman movie right around the corner, Man of Steel hype is reaching a fever pitch. Adding to the excitement, DC has just unveiled a series of Superman-themed variant covers, recreating some of the hero’s most iconic moments in art, brought to life by DC’s premier talent, including Jim Lee, Dan Mora, and more.
It’s truly epic to see so many of DC’s premier artists uniting to build a bridge between comics and cinema through their art.
DC has just announced a new series of variant covers in celebration of their Summer of Superman publishing initiative, which brings the Man of Steel and the Super-Family to the forefront of DC’s narratives through new comic titles, storylines, and, of course, the Superman film set to release on July 11, 2025.
While the common thread between these covers is the Man of Steel himself, each one pays tribute to David Corenswet’s Superman, either by capturing his likeness or showcasing Clark in his movie-specific costume. More details on these covers, including where to find them, the artists behind the work, and their release dates, can be found below.
DC Announces New Superman-Themed Variant Covers for Summer of Superman Initiative
Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1’s Superman Movie Variant Cover by Dan Mora, publishing on June 18, 2025
Artists contributing to DC’s new “Superman Movie” variant covers include Dan Mora, Jim Lee, Nicola Scott, Dan Jurgens, Frank Quitely, Jerry Ordway, Jorge Jiménez, and Kevin Maguire. Mora’s variant will appear in Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton on June 18, 2025; Lee’s in Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, 2025; Scott’s in Supergirl #1 on May 14, 2025; and Jurgens’ in Action Comics #1087 on June 11, 2025. Fans can also find Ordway’s variant in Superman #27 and Jiménez’s in Batman #161, both releasing on June 25, 2025, while Quitely’s cover will be featured in Justice League Unlimited #9 on July 23, 2025.
Beyond paying tribute to James Gunn’s Superman movie, these covers stand out for another reason: they recreate some of the Man of Steel’s most iconic comic book moments. Jorge Jiménez’s cover, for instance, reimagines Frank Quitely’s legendary All-Star Superman #1 (2005) cover, which features Superman peacefully perched among the clouds. In turn, Quitely’s own Summer of Superman variant also appears to revisit one of his classic All-Star Superman pieces. It’s truly epic to see so many of DC’s premier artists uniting to build a bridge between comics and cinema through their art.
