Warning: Spoilers for Action Comics #1074Superman's costume is iconic for a number of reasons, but his latest upgrade might be an improvement. The Man of Steel gets a major redesign as a result of his adventures through time, and its Kryptonian influences make it stand out from the costume he's used to. This Superman redesign's high-tech updates to his appearance make it a contender for his greatest outfit yet.
In Action Comics #1074 by Mark Waid, Clayton Henry, Michael Shelfer, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe, hide the recognizable symbol of the House of El.
Superman replaces his superhero suit with an outfit that blends in more with Krypton's fashion trends, and it's unlike anything he's worn before. This redesign is a huge change from his regular costume. Trading classic sensibilities for a modernized aesthetic, this Superman outfit makes an immediate impression as one of his coolest looks to date.
Superman's Kryptonian Redesign Stands Out from His Usual Look
Superman Replaces His Traditional Costume with a High-Tech Upgrade
Superman has officially traded his superhero gear for something that's better suited to Krypton. This new redesign has a minimalist, futuristic vibe that visibly ties the Man of Steel to his alien heritage. Instead of his red and blue color scheme, he sports red and black over a pristine white. In addition, the outfit lacks Superman's cape, reflecting how he is no longer able to act as Superman due to his powerlessness on Krypton. When Clark Kent isn't in his costume, he usually sticks to the laid-back plaids of a farm boy, so this refined outfit is a bold departure.

Superman’s Most Horrifying Transformation Reveals The Scariest Kryptonite in DC Lore
Green Kryptonite may be Superman's most well-known weakness, but his dark transformation just revealed which Kryptonite is even more terrifying.
The "it factor" that enhances Superman's new outfit is the Kryptonian technology that he's implemented into it. Superman wears his new solar gauntlets on his wrists, which enable him to use his powers without the requirement of a yellow sun's energy. Their sleek red design makes them a perfect accessory for this outfit. Additionally, he sports yellow sunglasses that can scan his surroundings and display coordinates. Superman typically doesn't rely on technology in his normal costume, and this high-tech redesign is therefore a far cry from his standard style. Already, this is one of Superman's most eye-catching designs in DC history.
Superman's Other Redesigns Subvert His Classic Costume
DC Has Updated Superman's Costume Multiple Times in His Long History
This doesn't mark the first time Superman's been given a major design overhaul. In fact, one of his redesigns follows a similar design philosophy to his newest outfit. In Superman: Godfall, he gets trapped in the wears a striking costume with a color scheme reminiscent to his current one, suggesting that it's a common Kryptonian style choice. His Godfall costume is another futuristic reimagining of the Man of Steel, proving that Superman is perfectly suited to pull off his people's fashion.
Superman: Godfall - written by Joe Kelly and Michael Turner with art by Talent Caldwell - is available now digitally and in collected formats from DC Comics!
New 52 costume, which takes his blue suit and swaps the red trunks for a belt. DC has given Superman plenty of awesome outfits over the years, but there's only one that's stood the test of time.
Superman's Traditional Costume Will Always Be His Greatest
Superman's Kryptonian Outfit Is Cool, But Nothing Beats the Original
Despite Superman's countless redesigns, he will always come back to his traditional costume - and rightfully so. He's worn variations of it since his debut in Action Comics #1 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, tweaking it but never straying too far from its core facets. Superman wearing dignified Kryptonian garb within the context of a disguise is acceptable, but it wouldn't fit the friendly image he seeks to convey on Earth. As great as certain other outfits may be, including his new Kryptonian disguise, none of them can ever fully replace the costume everyone knows and loves.
It's fun to see Superman experiment with fresh looks.
Superman's classic superhero costume is regarded as a classic for good reason. It doesn't come off as cold, whereas his Kryptonian looks might be imposing at a glance. Instead, the traditional costume presents the inviting image of a hero with bright colors and a flowing cape. His costume already incorporates Kryptonian elements, too, such as his family crest. Still, it's fun to see Superman experiment with fresh looks, and he may even start to implement Kryptonian technology into his costume moving forward now that he's given it a try.
