Superman has always been the ultimate comic book hero. In many ways, he is the template on which all other superheroes were built, and even Marvel is not above creating Superman clones. An alien orphan born of a distant and dying world, he grew up under the care of the kind and loving Kent family. With their example and his extraordinary powers to accomplish the impossible Clark Kent became Superman. With the powers of flight, super-strength, speed, invulnerability, and more the Man of Steel is a true example of truth and justice. He's a hero who never stops trying to do the right thing but no matter how hard he tries, the Last Son of Krypton will always be a failure.

As he grows, so do his Kryptonian powers, until one night the super-hearing Jon inherited from Superman gets so good, that he hears the cries of people suffering on distant planets. His mother tries to convince him that it’s just a dream, but his father confirms that he hears them too. That means that Superman not only hears the suffering of everyone in the galaxy but that he turns a blind eye to it. He fails them every day, and he knows it. Jon accuses his father of this and Clark agrees, his own guilt and failure rushing to the forefront. Superman may be the world's greatest hero, but he willingly ignores cries for help. Though he claims that he has tried to help everyone he can, Superman understands that his life and happiness always come at the price of ignoring those in need.
