Long-time Superman fans may think they know everything about the Daily Planet. However, this iconic piece of lore is about to undergo a major overhaul, receiving its most modern makeover to date and introducing wild twists that will make this reboot more memorable than ever.

The Summer of Superman (a Man of Steel-centric initiative bringing a surplus of Super-Family-related content) is nearly here. Among the most notable titles is Superman Unlimited by Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque, a series set to introduce lore changes and expansions that will ripple across DC’s other Superman-centric storylines.

One of the most significant changes is the impending reboot of the Daily Planet, Clark Kent’s iconic workplace, which is set to undergo a major modernization, one that will see it facing off against the dreaded threat of… PODCASTERS!

Slott recently made an appearance at WonderCon, where he discussed his projects and dropped major teasers for Superman Unlimited. He had much to say about the Daily Planet, with one of his most notable remarks centered on the new rivalry he’s bringing to the newspaper. Slott explained that fans will be getting the “Capra” version of the Daily Planet, where its journalists will be battling each other for scoops. However, internal rivalry won’t be their only challenge, as the Planet’s reporters will also be competing against Jack Ryder, aka THE CREEPER.

The Creeper is one of DC’s most underutilized characters, though he recently appeared in Joshua Williamson’s Superman #24, fighting alongside Lois Lane’s Superwoman. Now, it seems DC is preparing to expand its presence in Superman’s world, with Jack Ryder taking on a new role as a journalist (more specifically, a podcaster) chasing the same stories as the Daily Planet. Slott revealed that The Creeper’s podcast will be titled No Laughing Matter, a somewhat ominous name, given its instant association with the Joker.

Beyond the reveal of The Creeper’s podcast, No Laughing Matter, being in direct competition with the Daily Planet, fans also learned that the newspaper is set for a major expansion. Branches of the Daily Planet will now exist in every major DC city, including Gotham, Star City, and Themyscira. This marks a monumental shift, expanding the newspaper’s influence and presence well beyond Metropolis. Perhaps even more surprising is that Jimmy Olsen will now be stationed at the Gotham branch, where he’ll receive a Bat-Signal Watch, officially replacing his iconic Superman watch. Clearly, major changes lie ahead for Superman’s Daily Planet.
