The latest episode of Superman dying onscreen has made for a compelling start to the final season of the CW series, using details from both the comics and the show's history to craft a wonderfully engaging story. However, Superman & Lois is set to end with the close of this final season, and the show may be left with some heavy story ramifications.
With only a handful of episodes left, Superman & Lois has provided unexpected stories of the Man of Steel and his family that audiences never expected to see. Built around a satisfying family dynamic, the show has recently proven that the stories of Jordan, Jonathan, and Lois are just as important, if not more important, to the series than Superman himself. Following in this path, new details from the latest episode suggest that perhaps the Man of Steel will be done away with entirely by the end of the show.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Brought Clark Back From The Dead - But Superman's Days May Be Numbered
Clark Kent Has Been Regenerated With New Weaknesses
Superman returning from death was inevitable in the CW series, and Superman & Lois episode 4 ended with exactly that. This was done with the restoration of Sam Lane's heart using Clark's Kryptonian blood, which was then placed inside of Clark, allowing him to come back to life. While Superman's return was certainly important, this method of bringing the hero back brings up several concerns surrounding the hero's vitality. Superman may not have much time left, even if Clark survives.
Using Sam Lane's heart, even if it was enhanced by a serum made with Clark's own blood, brings up several concerns. While Sam Lane was certainly a strong and healthy figure for his age, the fact was that Sam was in his 60s, and his human heart was not the ideal specimen. While Clark's body and blood will certainly be able to use this heart for all that it has, this is likely to inhibit Superman's powers moving forward and may even force him to hang up his cape sooner than later.
Superman & Lois Ending With Superman's Retirement Would Be A Fitting Ending For The DC Show
Superman's Legacy Has Been Examined Throughout the Series' Run
Fortunately, Superman & Lois has spent much of its run exploring Clark's entire family, including the lives of his sons and unexpected storylines about their Superman powers. Clark retiring as Superman by the end of the show would actually make a lot of sense; this is an aged and established Superman who has spent his entire life fighting for good. With sons who are on the verge of adulthood who can take on his mantle, Clark may finally have the opportunity to let go and spend the rest of his days in peace with his wife.
This would be a fitting and satisfying ending for Superman & Lois, but it would also contribute to the wonderful Venom: The Last Dance suggest. Superman & Lois can close with genuine finality for the hero, and this would feel perfect after the series' 4-season run.
Superman & Lois' Villain Confrontation Tease Sets Up The Perfect Reason For Superman To Retire
Doomsday Will Return By The End Of The Series
The Superman & Lois sets up more conflicts with Doomsday, a villain that Superman was unable to beat even with his powers at their peak mere episodes ago. This confrontation will likely be used to close out the hero's story, and it seems unlikely that Superman would be able to beat him now. Fortunately, the show has done a great job setting up other heroes: in addition to Jordan and Jonathan, other characters like Steel and even his daughter Starlight will likely have to the battle.
Seeing Superman have to depend on others to defeat Doomsday would be an effective close to the show. In addition, if these other heroes defeat Doomsday, Superman will be given confidence that he is allowed to move on, and that the world will be safe without him. Superman & Lois has done an excellent job in exploring the human dynamics between Clark and his family, and it is clear that the hero would be perhaps happiest if he no longer felt such heavy responsibility for his heroism.

Superman & Lois Proved The DCEU Was Right About 1 Major Hero Choice
The DCEU made several controversial decisions, but one of these choices concerning the heroes has been validated by the CW’s Superman series.
Superman & Lois may end with no more Superman, and this would be the perfect ending for the series. After a long and storied career for this version of the hero, it seems that he has done all that he has set out to do. Superman & Lois shows that even Superman needs help sometimes and that the world of heroes is bigger and better for all of the impacts that he has made. Allowing Clark to hang up his cape for the final time in the series finale would be the perfect end to an excellent show.
Based on the characters from DC Comics, Superman & Lois follows Clark Kent and Lois Lane, attempting to live a quiet life in Smallville with their twin sons Jonathan and Jordan. Unfortunately for the couple, their lives continue to be effected by Clark's superhero identity and powers. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch star as Clark and Lois, with Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin portraying the couple's sons.
