Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 7.David Corenswet's Superman debuts in 2025.
As it is the show's final season, Superman & Lois season 4 is leaving nothing on the table. The final batch of episodes started with Doomsday killing Tyler Hoechlin's Superman. After that, the remaining Kents had to go up against Lex Luthor and his pet monster, losing General Sam Lane in the process. Those are just some of the major events that have happened in Superman & Lois season 4. After its latest episode, the world of the series will never be the same, and it seems like the DC show's biggest finale theory was right all along.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Episode 7 Makes Clark's Retirement Seem More Likely
The Man Of Steel Changes His Life With One Decision
After being shot at to be forced to reveal his identity in Superman & Lois season 4, episode 7, Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent decided that it was time to show the world who he really was. The Kent family talked about Clark's decision and agreed that it was the best way to move forward, with the hero then revealing to the world during a Daily Planet interview that Clark Kent is Superman. Nothing will ever be the same. Clark's secret was a major part of the show, as he tried to protect it and teach his sons about its importance.

Superman & Lois Just Did The Unthinkable With Clark Kent’s Biggest Secret & I Couldn’t Be Happier
Superman & Lois' final season brings another major shocking moment, and it uses Clark Kent's biggest secret in a poignant way that fits the DC series.
With Superman's secret identity out in the open, the theory that the Man of Steel will bow out by the end of the series becomes more likely. When Clark came back to life, General Sam Lane's heart did not restore him to full powers, showing that Superman was now more vulnerable. With only three episodes left before the series is over, Superman & Lois season 4's story is not focusing on finding a way to restore Clark's powers, and with one of Superman's biggest aspects — his secret — now gone, retirement could be the path for the hero.
Jonathan & Jordan's Main Superhero Complaint Is Solved By Superman's Secret Identity Reveal
Superman & Lois Superboys Had A Different Stance From Their Father
Jordan Kent got his powers in Superman & Lois season 1, while Jonathan only saw his abilities appear in the show's final season. Despite the two being very different in key regards about how they chose to use their powers upon learning that they had them, both Jordan and Jonathan have agreed on one thing — they do not want to keep their identities a secret. Jordan went through some issues for trying to become popular as Superboy instead of focusing on saving people like Clark told him him to.
Even when fame had nothing to do with it, as the teenagers just wanted to be able to share their secrets with their girlfriends, Clark told them that they were not allowed to. That line of thinking ended up causing a strain on Jordan's relationship with Sarah, and they broke up. Jordan and Jonathan let their parents know that they did not want to hide who they really were for the rest of their lives and deal with as much disappointment and heartbreak as Clark did. Now that Superman's secret is revealed, they will not have to.
Why Having Jordan & Jonathan Take Over From Superman Makes Sense For The Superman & Lois Ending
The DC Series Has Always Been Building Up To This
Superman & Lois differs from other live-action Superman stories because of its setup. An older Clark Kent and Lois Lane are trying to raise two teenage boys to be great men and heroes in the future. That is the core story of the show, and with Superman & Lois season 4 being the DC series' final season, it makes sense that the characters' journeys will reach their endpoint in the series finale. As such, Jordan and Jonathan can graduate to full-on heroes in the Superman & Lois series finale.
Superman's identity being out in the open teases that Clark's superhero career is on its last legs, setting up new heroes.
Clark Kent's sons taking over for him becomes increasingly likely. While Superman is still needed in the world, the DC show's final episode could feature a flash-forward to show what Jonathan and Jordan's future as Supermen looks like, with Tyler Hoechlin's Superman having retired after his powers never reverted to what they were or gradually went away. Superman & Lois was always about Lois and Clark teaching their sons how to become heroes and look out for others, and Superman's identity being out in the open teases that Clark's superhero career is on its last legs, setting up new heroes.
