Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 10.The season 4's characters all got a fitting ending in the show's final episode, even if some were sadder than others.

If there is one thing that I love about the live-action DC show chose to give a satisfying ending to all of its core characters, leaving little up to the imagination about what could happen in their futures. While I don't think that completely rules out a possible spinoff in the future, such as a series following Jonathan and Jordan as Superboys or Supermen with Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent appearing in the Fortress of Solitude, I love that all characters' endings were treated with care.

Superman & Lois' Finale Is Split Between The Show's Final Fights & Showing Everyone's Endings

Lex Luthor Is The Series' Final Villain

I was surprised to see how the Superman & Lois series finale was so clearly divided into two parts. The first half of the episode focuses on resolving the final season's villain storylines. I thought both had somewhat fitting endings. Doomsday's was the best, as it made for some nice action, let John Henry Irons help — even without his suit — by coming up with a new plan, and ultimately saw the part of Bizarro within Doomsday his life. After that, Doomsday's sacrifice was a fitting and heartbreaking moment that completed his long arc in the series perfectly.

The Superman & Lois series finale delivered an emotional ending for Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel, which included a major Superman rule being broken.

Then came time for Superman & Lois' final battle. Michael Cudlitz's Lex Luthor has become one of the best live-action versions of Lex. However, I felt the finale spent too little time on him, and aside from some exciting action beats, his fight with Superman was over too fast, and I never felt like the Man of Steel was in real danger. I did like that the ending included Superman destroying Luthor's suit as they fought and saving him from dying as he fell. After the fight, the next 20 minutes were a completely different episode dedicated to concluding storylines.

The DC Series Finale Did Not Forget Any Of Its Core Characters

While I wanted the action part of the finale, particularly the Superman vs Lex Luthor fight, to last longer, I understand why it didn't. After all, the DC series had always been about legacy. Superman & Lois' biggest hook was seeing older versions of the characters as they raised two teenage boys. The series finale decided to focus more on the emotional conclusion of that journey than on epic action, and it was impressive that not only did the Kents get an emotional ending, but the series managed to wrap up several characters' stories in a satisfying way.

The only real problem I had with season 4 was that most of the show's characters were only used sparingly. The decision was due to budget cuts, which also led to there only being ten episodes to wrap up the story. Due to that, I was thankful for how the finale found a way to pack endings for every major character in around twenty minutes, bringing pretty much everyone back. From John Henry and Lana getting married to Jonathan and Jordan finally suiting up as Superboys to Lois and Clark's emotional deaths and more, the finale had it all.

I'm Glad Superman & Lois Made Time To Finish All Its Major Storylines Before Ending

Only Superhero Action Would Not Have Sufficed

After building up to it throughout the final season, I would not have been surprised if all or most of the series finale had been dedicated to Superman's fights with Doomsday and Lex Luthor. After all, the villains are the biggest of the DC series and two of the Man of Steel's most iconic foes from DC Comics. Especially with only ten episodes to conclude the story of Tyler Hoechlin's Clark and the Kents, a finale that fully dealt with the possibility of him losing and dying at the hands of Doomsday and Luthor could have offered high stakes.

However, what we ended up with was true to the show's journey with these characters. I don't think that the series finale would have been satisfying if we did not get the definitive endings for all the characters like what happened. Since the show had the potential to continue for more seasons, I feel like the only way to properly end it was by showing what would have happened to the Kents and the other characters in the future. As such, fans leave the series behind feeling like we know the whole story, making Superman & Lois' ending work perfectly.
