The the DC Universe's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" slate has kicked off with the animated Creature Commandos series, 2025 is where the film side of the franchise will get properly launched with Superman. As the David Corenswet-starring movie has been in post-production throughout the fall, fans are eagerly waiting to get the Superman trailer.

Gunn was recently asked by a fan on Threads if there are plans for the Superman trailer to come out "still in December?", as there have been reports about the first piece of footage coming out this month. However, the Superman director had a very interesting response to this question, as he simply replied with "Still?" keeping things short and cryptic while challenging the idea that the trailer is definitely releasing in this window.

What James Gunn's Superman Trailer Comments Mean

From the many Superman movie trailer updates that Gunn has shared over the last few months, it has been heavily presumed that December would be the proper time to release the first teaser. It would be a suitable way to wrap up 2024, which was very limited with DC releases both on the big and small screens - which will change in 2025.

That said, there is always the possibility that DC Studios have perhaps decided to have the Superman trailer debut in early 2025, which could be what Gunn's "Still?" reply was meant to imply. However, given the good momentum that the DC Universe is building with the arrival of Creature Commandos, it would be surprising for DC Studios not to seize the opportunity to release the Superman trailer right before the holidays, and Gunn may indeed simply be keeping people on their toes about what to expect going forward.

Our Take On James Gunn's Superman Trailer Comments

It wouldn't be shocking if Gunn's comments were simply intended to build suspense for the DC Universe's audience, given how many reports have come out about the Superman movie trailer and its supposed release window. Indeed, it's possible that Gunn is making slight fun of the fact that he never confirmed in the first place if there is Superman footage coming at all in December. But with only a few weeks remaining of 2024, time will tell if the first Superman trailer is actually coming out this year or not.
