Would Thunderbolts* have been better if John Walker was the main villain?
Co-writer Eric Pearson recently revealed that Wyatt Russell's John Walker was originally meant to be the main villain of Thunderbolts* before switching to Sentry/The Void, with Val manipulating him into believing his super soldier serum was wearing off, and was giving him medication that would lead to a Hulk-out-type moment. Pearson ultimately explained that it didn't feel tonally right for the movie, and I do kind of agree that it would have felt kind of out of place. The movie was kind of all about giving everyone redemptions, so going for a big fight like that against Walker would have worked against the movie's mental health discussion.
Should The White Lotus season 3's Patrick Schwarzenegger play the MCU's Cyclops?
Patrick Schwarzenegger is rumored to be on Marvel Studios' radar for the MCU's X-Men movie, which is in development. As a fan of his work in The Boys' spinoff Gen V and recently in The White Lotus season 3, I think Schwarzenegger has the acting range to play all the different sides of Cyclops. He can easily bring the determined leader to life, spotlight some of Scott Summers' insecurities related to his role and how the other mutants see him, and even turn radical like he did in the comics. Adding to that, he looks perfect for Cyclops.
Does David Corenswet's Superman look weak in DC's new Superman movie?
After the new trailer for James Gunn's Superman movie, I have noticed that pretty much every new trailer, teaser, or behind-the-scenes footage we have gotten from the DCU's first film shows Superman getting beaten or looking battered. There has been some debate about Gunn making David Corenswet's Superman weaker, and in some ways, I agree. However, I don't think it's a bad thing, as it addresses the criticism that Superman is so powerful that he becomes boring, plus it gives the character more to struggle with and explains why other DCU heroes are in the movie.
Is Clark Kent and Lois Lane's chemistry in the new Superman movie trailer better than Henry Cavill and Amy Adams'?
Having watched the first full trailer for James Gunn's Superman movie, I'm already in love with the dynamic between David Corenswet's Superman and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane. Differently from the DCEU version of the couple, where Amy Adams' Lois Lane was not the intrepid reporter she should have been and Henry Cavill's Superman was not allowed to be his "boy scout" self from the comics, the DCU versions of Superman and Lois Lane feel like they were ripped right out of DC Comics. I can't wait to see more of the duo that could become the best Clark/Lois couple.
Is James Gunn's new DCU Wonder Woman tease after Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman 3 cancellation exciting?
Gal Gadot will not be returning as Wonder Woman. After Wonder Woman 3 was cancelled, James Gunn commented on how he had not yet started work on recasting the character. Now, while Gunn does not give concrete details, the DCU creative chief has shared the first Wonder Woman update in a while, saying, "Not to be shared publicly yet but yes. Encouraging." With Superman flying into theaters in July and a Batman movie announced, I think Wonder Woman deserves to get a solo film revealed soon, so I'm excited that the DCU's plans for her are finally moving along.
After the new Superman trailer, does Nicholas Hoult feel right for Lex Luthor?
The new Superman trailer gave us our best look yet at Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, and he also had some new voice lines. It's clear that Hoult's Lex will already be a major hater of the Man of Steel, and I really like how he looks. While I liked Jesse Eisenberg as a villain, he never felt like Lex Luthor. I already feel like Hoult's Lex is going to be an exciting improvement.
How do Guy Gardner's Green Lantern powers look in the new Superman trailer?
While I'm still not sold on Guy Gardner's design in Superman, the brief glimpse at his powers was fantastic. I love the mix of colors in the green, and I really hope they'll maintain this style in the Lanterns HBO series. I doubt we'll see too much of Guy in the movie, but I'm hoping for a fun sneak peak at the DCU's version of the Green Lantern corps, something that we never fully saw in the DCEU.
I'm convinced David Corenswet will be the best live-action Superman after the new DCU movie trailer.
The new trailer for James Gunn's Superman movie shows a lot more of David Corenswet's Superman. While I know that it is still early to make such bold claims, I believe Corenswet has the potential to be the best live-action Superman when all is said and done. The trailer shows how he can easily switch between Superman and Clark through the tone of his voice, which is perfect. There are multiple moments that showcase how he embodies both sides of the character beautifully, and Superman's story is set up to be emotional. Based on that, Corenswet's Superman can shine brightly.
Is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor the President of the United States in James Gunn's Superman movie?
DC has released a new Superman movie trailer. In the DCU footage, when Lois Lane talks about the President, the camera cuts to Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. The villain has been the President of the United States before in Tom Welling's Smallville, DC Comics, and more. Based on what we have seen of Lex in the trailers, with him employing people like the Engineer, I don't think he is the President just yet, but the line in the trailer could be hinting that it is his ultimate goal.
Is Ironheart going to finally introduce THAT villain to the MCU?
The first full trailer for Ironheart is here, giving us both a proper look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe hero's return, but also that of its depiction of The Hood, seemingly an ally for Dominique Thorne's titular character before becoming the villain he's known to be in the comics. Prior to the trailer's release, there was a supposed leaked shot of Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto, and while I initially had my doubts, I am starting to think he may indeed be playing the character after the footage highlighted the dark arts nature of The Hood. I know, technically, the comics have him tied to Dormammu, but I think Marvel might finally be ready.
Did the new Superman trailer give away too much?
When James Gunn revealed that the Superman teaser trailer only scratched the surface of the film, I was kind of worried about a subsequent trailer being dropped, as I felt the first one showed more than enough to get me excited and left enough a mystery. With the new trailer being longer, I was definitely worried it'd give away too much, but I'm actually glad to see that I still don't fully know what the plot of the movie is. It's clear David Corenswet's Superman is still in his early days of heroism, is being held able for collateral damage, and that Lex Luthor is a villain, but everything else still feels nicely unexplained that I can't wait to see James Gunn's full vision.
Will 2026 be the best year ever for Spider-Man in live-action?
2026 will be a major year for Spider-Man in live-action. The wall-crawler is going to have a high-profile series in the form of Nicolas Cage's Spider-Noir on Prime Video, and an anticipated movie with Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which marks a fresh start for the MCU's Peter Parker. Adding to that, there is a chance that Spider-Man is one of the characters who have yet to be announced for Avengers: Doomsday. I believe that if Holland is indeed in the Avengers film, then 2026 has a good chance of becoming the best year for live-action Spider-Man stories yet.
Excitement for Superman is high, but is there anything you're worried about?
My hype and excitement for Superman is extremely high, and I can't wait for the first live-action DCU movie to finally release in July. However, my biggest concern is that the movie is going to have far too many villains. Rather than focusing on one foe in particular, like Lex Luthor, I'm worried that the movie may be overstuffed with antagonists.
How should Daredevil: Born Again season 2 reintroduce Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones?
As part of the Disney Upfronts, it was revealed that Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones is officially set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. While it's currently unclear as to how she will return, the fact that season 1 ended with Charlie Cox's blind vigilante building his own army to combat Mayor Fisk, part of me thinks she'll be one of his allies. However, I think it'd be more interesting to see her having stealthily been building evidence to bring Fisk down, and reluctantly teams with Matt to put the finishing touches to a case against him.
Who is the Hammer of Boravia in the new Superman movie trailer teaser?
DC has released a new Superman teaser ahead of the new DCU Superman movie trailer, and the footage shows the first look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel fighting a mysterious villain who wears a metal suit. The armored foe is called the Hammer of Boravia in Superman promo material, but there are theories about how he could be a more prominent character in disguise. I believe the armored villain will be working for Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, with the movie pulling off a similar twist to the Superman & Lois series, revealing Ultraman is the one inside the suit.
Today marks 14 years since Smallville ended and it's still the best live-action Superman story.
14 years after Smallville ended, we're soon getting a new live-action version of Clark Kent in the form of David Corenswet's Superman movie. The DCU film will have a lot to live up to, as I still believe Smallville to be the best live-action Superman story. We got to spend the most time with Tom Welling's Clark Kent out of the live-action Supermen, seeing him from the moment Clark learned to control his powers to when he finally became Superman. With the best live-action Lex Luthor and plenty of exciting characters and twists, I believe Smallville is the gold standard.
Will the Justice Gang invite Superman to their team in the DCU?
James Gunn's Superman is set to feature more DCU heroes beyond the Man of Steel. Known as the "Justice Gang" founded by Maxwell Lord, it looks as though the team will include Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner's Green Lantern, and Metamorpho. Considering the fact that the team is recruiting new heroes in the new trailer for Peacemaker season 2, I do think it's very likely that the Justice League will extend Superman an invite to their ranks in the DCU movie.
What did you think about the first look at Nicholas Cage's live-action Spider-Man Noir?
While pretty brief, the first teaser for Amazon's Spider-Noir looks really cool. Nicholas Cage's live-action costume looks perfect, and the overall tone and black-and-white aesthetic looks like it was ripped right from the coimcs. I'm incredibly excited to see more, though this initial footage for the 2026 series does look extremely promising.
Which five X-Men are you picking for the first MCU roster?
When we finally get an X-Men movie in the MCU proper, I don't want to see Wolverine in the initial line-up (he should be saved for sequels). Instead, I'd like to see Cyclops, Jean, and Storm as part of the first MCU roster, as well as Nightcrawler and Iceman. I feel like that's a team that's got some wide appeal with a good variation of powers, especially for a debut movie.
What is the hardest superhero movie to rewatch?
Sadly, quite a few superhero movies did not turn out great, and that makes rewatching them a difficult affair. That said, some bad superhero movies have genuinely great moments, be it through compelling character development, thrilling action sequences, or funny jokes. Memes aside, I think Morbius is the superhero movie that I find the hardest to rewatch. I don't think there are any redeeming qualities to the film that other superhero movies in similar positions, such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine or even Sony's Spider-Man Universe's Kraven the Hunter, have.
