Warning: SPOILERS for Young Justice: Targets #4Superboy in particular is under threat as he faces off against the classic Superman villain. In true Young Justice fashion, the "sidekicks" take center stage as Metallo is reinvented for this parallel DC universe.
Though Young Justice is yet to be renewed for a fifth season at HBOMax, the story of Earth-16's heroes continues in the six-issue tie-in comic book series, Young Justice: Targets. The miniseries begins in the aftermath of the show's fourth season; both Beast Boy and Superboy have returned to active duty after their respective troubles in the previous season. Like the beloved animated show itself, the comic focuses on the younger generation of heroes and their various allies and enemies—including the young queen of Vlatava, Perdita, who was abducted in the first issue of the series. Young Justice: Targets follows the young heroes as they attempt to rescue Perdita.
Superboy, Beast Boy, and the other heroes have discovered that Lex Luthor is likely behind Perdita's abduction, and so they attempt a rescue in Young Justice: Targets #4 by Greg Weisman, Christopher Jones, Jason Wright, and Wes Abbott. Once they reach the LexCorp Robotics factory where they believe the queen is being held, the team is ambushed. Meanwhile, Oracle learns Perdita was likely abducted because she had Kryptonite on her person, which is when Superboy is confronted by a brand new Young Justice villain: Juan Cordero, also known as Metallo.

Young Justice is well known for reinventing classic DC characters for their own Earth-16, and this new Metallo is no different. Superboy has always been the star of this show.
Young Justice: Targets readers will see more of this face-off between Superboy and Metallo in the coming issue, and hopefully they will see just what this new, creepy Metallo can do. Meanwhile, DC Comics fans can see more of both these characters—in their original comic book iterations—featured in the current storylines happening in Action Comics. No matter the universe, Metallo is a force to be reckoned with, and thisYoung Justice interpretation of the classic villain is no different.
