No other game on the market can rival Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for free, but the aptly named Fighters will add a further five characters.
It has already been confirmed that this season will see Dragon Quest series.

The leak stems from a post on the Japanese website 5Channel (via PersonaCentral), which in itself doesn't really instill much confidence. What makes this particular leak seem all the more legitimate however, is that one of the key leakers in the industry has commented on the matter by stating that individuals at Square Enix have lost their jobs because of this leak – namely the individual responsible for leaking a majority of Smash Ultimate's roster prior to release, Vergeben (via GameFaqs).
The information on Erdrick is quite telling of how the character will play – provided that they are indeed ing the roster – but one of the more interesting components of the reveal is that there will be both male and female versions of the Dragon Quest fighter available for selection. An image showcasing what this would look like has been making the rounds to provide fans with a better idea of what to expect.
Gamers are best to take this information with a grain of salt, as elaborate fake leaks and Smash Bros. Ultimate have gone hand-in-hand in the past. Having said that, the following information has been shared about Dragon Quest's Erdrick ing Ultimate's roster:
Erdrick
Stage is Alefgard
Erdrick (Male) and Erdrick (Female), 2 colors each of Anlucia and the Dragon Quest XI Hero
Slime appears on screen with a skill
Achieved through active collaboration on Square’s side
To the benefit of overseas marketing for the DQ series
Not content on ending there, the leaker also dropped a few details on how Smash Bros. Ultimate's first DLC fighter, Joker, will be implemented into the game:
Joker
The stage is Mementos
Jack Frost appears on screen with a skill
Marketing of P5R (complete version) and P5U (fighting game)P5R is 2019
P5U is delayed because Arc is busy with the development of a Granblue fighting game
Despite the fact that Dragon Quest isn't as popular in North America as it is in Japan, the franchise's history with Nintendo is quite profound. Erdrick in particular has been the longstanding face for the series, much like Cloud Strife is to Final Fantasy, so his inclusion seemed more inevitable than guaranteed.
Add in the fact that the critically-acclaimed Dragon Quest 11 is on its way to Nintendo Switch in 2019, and the addition of Erdrick appears to be lining up perfectly. Plus, Akira Toriyama designed Erdrick and he's known for having also designed all of the characters in Dragon Ball, so this would be a spiritual victory of sorts for people that want Goku in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the very least.
