A datamine of the Super Nintendo World tie-in mobile app strongly suggests that a Donkey Kong expansion is on the way. The park is a long time coming and is part of the gaming icon's effort to explore new avenues for its beloved IPs, who truly need no introduction. A Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, a rollercoaster infused with VR elements in which guests race against one another through Bowser's castle.
With the park set to open February 4, 2021, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto starred in a video guide of a few of the Osaka park attractions. After officially introducing himself as Mario's father, Miyamoto showed off the wonderfully vibrant animatronics dotting a classic World 1 Mario landscape. He then demonstrated how guests would interact with the park using an electronic wrist band and the aforementioned mobile app to collect coins and keys throughout the various physical minigames, culminating in a showdown with Bowser Jr.
Twitter Kremling Kampaigner (@KRoolKountry) has shared images of Donkey Kong stickers datamined from the app, which imply that more Donkey Kong is on the way. The stickers depict the tie-wearing gorilla and his plucky nephew Diddy Kong alongside various paraphernalia from the Donkey Kong Country series of games of which they are the stars. DK barrels, bananas, puzzle pieces, balloons, Kong letters, and Rambi the Rhino's crate are all instantly recognizable trademarks of Rare's smash-hit platformers. Check out the post below:
Since the beginning, Donkey Kong has been alongside Mario, starring as the damsel-stealing, barrel-hurling baddie of the arcade game that bears his name. If any character deserves a wing of the park, it's DK. Love for the Donkey Kong Country games is so strong that the original trilogy's rerelease gunning for his inclusion for years previously.
It remains to be seen what the expansion may look like. The stickers are not the first piece of evidence to suggest an expansion; Bloomberg's Kurumi Mori said they are "already building a rumored Donkey Kong area next door." Donkey Kong fans will rejoice, but if they live anywhere but in Japan, it will be challenging to get to the park anytime soon due to the pandemic. Hopefully, by the time the expansion is finished, international DK devotees can make the trip to Super Nintendo World.
