The DC FanDome brought fans their first look at two new superhero games, including Rocksteady Studios' newest project, The Suicide Squad film is also on the way, the two aren't related.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League won't arrive until 2022, but fans had a lengthy reveal trailer to dig into at FanDome. The trailer shows Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark fighting some kind of zombie enemies, before Superman himself enters the equation.

Although it's not immediately clear, Suicide Squad is actually set in the Batman Arkham universe, unlike the other game announced at FanDome, Gotham Knights. Here's how Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will connect to Batman Arkham.

Suicide Squad Will Follow-Up on Elements From Batman Arkham

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Harley Quinn

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice seemingly takes place sometime after the end of Batman: Arkham Knight. Harley Quinn is the most obvious connection here, as during the events of Arkham Knight she was left locked up by Batman, but sports a much different look in Suicide Squad. Deadshot has also appeared previously in the Arkham series, most prominently in Arkham Origins when he was hired by Black Mask, Joker, and Penguin.

During the game's FanDome Sefton Hill, creative director at Rocksteady, commented on how Suicide Squad will connect to Arkham, saying "This is a continuation of the Arkhamverse, so a lot of the threads and storylines you're going to see come to fruition in this game."

Rocksteady hasn't said which characters and storylines might be continuing, although it'll be interesting to see what Harley does with the loss of both Joker and Batman. While Batman is seemingly dead by this point, the trailer does prominently feature a Batman balloon, as seen in the image above. It's especially interesting considering Suicide Squad takes place in Metropolis and could suggest that Batman will factor into the game in some way. With the countless villains that have appeared across the Arkham series, it's easy to see how Rocksteady could continue plot threads and it'd be fascinating to see what characters like Catwoman or Nightwing are doing in the wake of Batman's death.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches in 2022.
