As the ultimate patriarch of the Roy family, Logan Roy is the rich figurehead in Succession. He founded Waystar Royco and continues to lead the company, despite his ailing health and old age. At the start of the series, Logan has plans to retire and give the company over to his second-oldest son, but he changes his mind at the last second, leading to an intense chain of events that include betrayal, anger, and revenge. Logan has been married three times and had four children.

Before Logan's enterprise, he was a young boy from Dundee, Scotland. As World War II tore apart Europe, Logan's mother sent him and his two siblings to Canada to live with their uncle. According to Logan, his uncle abused him, and he blamed himself for his sister's death. Logan eventually escaped and formed his media company. Waystar Royco is a fictional media conglomerate that owns several news channels, produces movies, and runs various theme parks and cruises. Audiences who Succession get to know the company and its issues closely.

Ewan Roy

Logan's closest relation and only connection to his youth is his older brother, Ewan Roy. In Succession, Ewan is adamantly opposed to Logan's line of work and is an outspoken activist against capitalism and big business.

Because of their differing views, the brothers do not get along and often fall into verbal disputes when around each other. Overall, Ewan is a stern, humble man that is highly opinionated on most subjects. He has at least one daughter.

Caroline Collingwood & Marcia

Although Logan had three marriages, only his second and third wives appeared in Succession. His second wife is British aristocrat Caroline Collingwood. Though not much is known about Logan's marriage to Caroline, it is clear that it ended poorly and the two aren't exactly friends, even many years after their divorce. Caroline still has a stake in Succession's Waystar throughout season 3, though she lives in England and has remarried. Caroline is fashionable, ive-aggressive, and often cruel to her children, who she does not see often.

Marcia is Logan's third wife who he is still married to throughout Succession. At the start of the series, Marcia and Logan are inseparable as she nurses Logan back to health after he suffers from a stroke. Despite being separate from the dealings at Waystar Royco, Logan names her his successor in Succession season 1 and Marcia plays a significant role in making decisions for Logan and keeping him away from his children. Marcia eventually loses some of her power, though later on in the series after Logan is unfaithful to her. Marcia has a sly, controlling nature which she covers up with a kind, motherly facade. She has a son named Amir.

Connor Roy

Connor Roy is Logan's firstborn son to his first wife. In Succession season 1, Connor appears fairly goofy and unthreatening at the beginning of the series. He is clearly desperate for his father's approval and has little to do with the family business. His siblings also make fun of him because his girlfriend, Willa, is a hired escort. Despite being the eldest Roy son, Connor is often written off because of his conservative desires and strange opinions.

However, later in Succession, Connor becomes a more unpredictable character with his decision to run for president. Although the rest of the Roy family clearly doubts him, Connor sticks firmly to his ambitions and begins inserting himself into the political atmosphere. He also asks Logan for more power and favors to aid in his presidential campaign.

Kendall Roy

Kendall Roy is Logan Roy's second son, the first child of Caroline Collingwood, and he was the presumed heir to Waystar Royco. After losing his spot in the company, Kendall planned moves in Succession season 3 to take over Waystar from the outside. Kendall is logical and strategic and often tries to come across as a cool, unconcerned guy to his Waystar Royco clients. However, despite all of his preparations and ideas, Kendall's personality can be overbearing, and he makes mistakes in the company that cause Logan not to trust him.

Furthermore, Kendall has a complicated personal life. From the start of Succession, it is revealed that Kendall is a recovering addict. Like Connor, he strives to please Logan but struggles emotionally from his father's cruelty. In general, Kendall's relationship with Logan is strained due to the expectations each has for the other. Kendall is estranged from his wife Rava and occasionally sees his two children, Iverson and Sophie. At his core, Kendall steals and cheats in Succession because he wants to do the right thing and gain the power he thinks he deserves, but his inner demons often get in the way.

Roman Roy

Roman Roy is Logan's third son, the second child of Caroline Collingwood, and the COO of Waystar Royco in Succession. Roman plays a big part in the family company, especially after Logan fires his original COO, Frank, and puts Roman in charge. Roman yearns to be the head of Waystar but is considered the black sheep of his family. Despite his siblings' doubts, he has a strong belief that he can lead the company and often takes on projects to prove his worth. Unfortunately, these projects often go haywire, and he must do damage control with Waystar General Counsel, Gerri.

Roman also has a particularly strange personal life in Succession. He often makes lewd, inappropriate jokes and cuts down his siblings at every turn. However, Succession, always becoming immediately obedient and taking Logan's side, even if he doesn't want to. Roman also struggles with romantic and sexual relationships and forms an obsession with Gerri. He is a generally unpredictable character that is clearly affected by the dynamics of his childhood and seeks justice for the ways he feels he's been wronged.

Siobhan "Shiv" Roy

Shiv Roy is Logan's only daughter, the third child of Caroline Collingwood, and a shareholder at Waystar Royco. At the start of Succession, Shiv works as a political consultant in which she thrives. Of the Roy children, Shiv is Logan's favorite and gives her the nickname "Pinky." When Kendall does not become Logan's successor and the position is up for grabs, Shiv works hard to make her father trust her, so she can become the head of the company. Although she is often persuasive, Shiv still struggles to navigate Logan's moods and stubborn opinions.

Succession season 1 and the pair get married by the end of the season. Despite being outwardly affectionate towards her husband, Shiv often keeps secrets from him and talks down to him. Additionally, she isn't entirely faithful in her marriage and becomes defensive about the subject. She is an ambitious, secretive, and intelligent woman who doesn't mind hurting her family to get her way.

Tom Wambsgans

Although Tom isn't part of the Roy family by blood, he plays a major character in Succession. He is Shiv's husband and works for ATN, the news station owned by Waystar Royco. Tom has a genial relationship with Logan and wishes to please him, especially when it comes to Shiv. For the most part, Tom is happy with his role at Waystar, though he has tendencies to exert his power to the fullest extent when it comes to those who work under him. Before Succession season 4, Tom betrayed Shiv, which turned out to be one of his biggest moves in the series.

Tom is a genuinely kind and caring person. Though he can have a bully mentality at times, he typically just wants to fit in with the Roy family. He loves Shiv unconditionally and forms a close bond with Roy cousin, Greg. Over the course of Succession, Tom's nice personality is tested as the Roy family manipulates and uses him for their benefit.

Greg Hirsch

Greg Hirsch is Logan Roy's great-nephew, the grandson of Ewan Roy, and the cousin of the Roy siblings. After being fired from his job at a Waystar Royco park, he meets with Logan and gets a job under Tom at ATN. Greg works hard for the company and seemingly has no desire to rise to the top position, although he's often pulled into alliances with Tom and Kendall. Throughout Succession, Greg becomes a better schemer, improving at lying and negotiating and earning the respect of Logan.

Greg is timid but ambitious. He has an awkward air about him but is incredibly earnest and nice. Alongside the Roy sibling feuds and drama, Greg tries hard to fit in and make the right moves. His feelings of being an outsider in the family lead him to his close relationship with Tom, and the two often interact like a married couple. Greg spends the majority of Succession trying to make everyone happy while attempting to climb the Waystar Royco ladder and make something of himself.
