Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Studio 666

The Foo Fighters' Studio 666 follows the Foo Fighters as they attempt to record their 10th studio album at a spooky Encino mansion before the band is beset by demonic forces that compel the band into gratuitous acts of Gonzo-inspired violence.

Studio 666 begins with a brief glimpse at Dream Widow's Skye Widow (Jenna Ortega) before her supernatural murder in the Encino mansion. The lead singer's death results in the Dream Widow record becoming a lost tape, with the sounds recorded by the band said to conjure a demonic spirit when played. A 13-minute instrumental cut from this Dream Widow tape is played several times throughout Studio 666, while their song "March of the Insane" also features in the movie's credits.

Yet despite Dream Widow having such a fleshed-out sound in Studio 666, the horror band is entirely fictional. Originally created by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl as a way to introduce the demonic opus "Lacrimus dei Ebrius", Grohl eventually decided to make a whole album and persona for Dream Widow. Per Rolling Stone, Grohl has said Dream Widow's ultimate aim was to blend his favorite bands and influences with the intrinsic relationship rock and roll has with horror, stating: "Some of it sounds like Trouble; some of it sounds like Corrosion of Conformity; some of it has a Kyuss vibe.”

Although Dream Widow is not a band in the most real sense, Grohl quickly developed the idea of creating a physical lost tape to add to the mythos surrounding "Lacrimus dei Ebrius" and the band's fictional murder. Naturally, this tape quickly became a fully-fledged album, with the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl teasing that he has recorded several unreleased tracks that add to the intrigue of the Dream Widow name. Currently untitled, this Dream Widow album is set to release around February 5th, 2022, in tandem with Studio 666's domestic debut - making Dream Widow a genuine prospect available to stream on most major music platforms.

The fact that Dream Widow is not a real band has surprised some Studio 666 audiences, given the amount of material the fictitious outfit has. Dream Widow already possesses a title track, album art, and a substantial following per Spotify. This is further backed up by their debut single "March of the Insane" being played over 200,000 times in less than a month on the platform, highlighting an appetite for a metal band that in the broadest sense does not actually exist.

Nevertheless, Dream Widow's concept adds genuine There Will Be Blood, how Grohl has carefully crafted such a rich-feeling fictional band in Dream Widow should be praised nonetheless.
