Many of Stephen King’s works have been adapted to TV and film for years, and there are many actors who have appeared in more than one – and here’s who has appeared in most Stephen King adaptations so far. The success of Stephen King's novels and short stories has led to a number of TV and film adaptations, and they have built a list of frequent collaborators in the Stephen King universe.
It all started with Brian de Palma’s adaptation of the novel The Shining, and there are many actors who have appeared in more than one Stephen King project, both as main and secondary characters – and at the top of the list is Matt Frewer.
Every Stephen King Adaptation Matt Frewer Has Appeared In
Matt Frewer has appeared in almost every adaptation of Stephen King’s stories made by writer and director Mick Garris. So far, Frewer has appeared in five Stephen King projects, of which only one has been a movie and the rest TV movies or series. First was the movie Riding the Bullet, directed by Garris and where Frewer played Mr. Clarkson. It's the story of a man who, after learning that his mother is dying, tries to hitchhike to the hospital, but on his way there, he’s picked up by a stranger who offers him an evil alternative. Frewer’s next King project was the critically acclaimed 1994 miniseries The Stand, also directed by Garris.
With a screenplay by King himself, The Stand follows the survivors of a deadly plague that kills most of the world’s population, and who split into two groups: one led by a benevolent elder and the other by a malevolent being. Frewer played “Trashcan Man”, a mentally ill arsonist and scavenger. Next was the TV comedy horror movie Quicksilver Highway, also directed by Garris, and which is based on Clive Barker’s short story “The Body Politic” and King’s short story “Chattery Teeth”. Frewer played Dr. Charles George, and the movie follows a traveling showman who tells horror stories to the people he meets.
In 2006, Frewer played Ralph Carver in the TV movie Desperation, once more directed by Garris and written by King. Desperation tells the story of a writer, a family, a couple, and a hitchhiker who after being thrown into a jail cell in a deserted town, find themselves fighting for their lives. Last but not least, is the miniseries Bag of Bones directed by – you guessed it – Garris. Bag of Bones follows a best-selling author who after the sudden death of his wife, returns to his cabin retreat where he’s haunted by paranormal visitations. Frewer played Sid Noonan, the brother of the main character, who suggests he goes to the cabin.
Other Actors Who Have Appeared In Multiple Stephen King Adaptations
Right after Matt Frewer on the list of frequent collaborators in Stephen King adaptations is a multiple tie between more of Stephen King’s works are adapted to TV and film, the list will continue growing, and some of these actors could take Matt Frewer’s spot at any moment.
