The accompanying dock for the soon-to-be-released not boost the Steam Deck's performance, would be designed to connect the handheld to a larger screen, such as a computer monitor or TV.
PC and console gamers alike have been patiently waiting for the Steam Deck to release since it was announced last year. The handheld system is meant to function essentially as a compact gaming PC, serving up high framerates and good resolution for many modern titles. In this way, it is something like a souped-up Nintendo Switch. Unlike the Switch, however, it was revealed that the Steam Deck would not be shipping with a compatible dock at launch, much to the disappointment of some fans. Along with providing what many players might consider a more comfortable gaming experience, the dock would also let gamers use the console for long periods of time despite the Steam Deck's short battery life.
As noted by Reddit SheepherderOdd2190 (via Game Rant), players might not have to wait very long to get their hands on the Steam Deck dock accessory. This Redditor noticed that there was a new section added to the hardware page for the Steam Deck on Valve's website. Upon further inspection, SheepherderOdd2190 saw that this page was serving up specific spec information for the Deck. Most importantly, however, was the section that d the release date as spring 2022, indicating that gamers could be getting their hands on this accessory in just a few months. While SheepherderOdd2190 managed to screenshot these sections, Valve swiftly updated its website to remove them.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but the official specs for dock have been shown, coming spring 2022 from SteamDeck
With so much news coming out in recent months about the Steam Deck and the games it s, it's no wonder players are so excited to play it in both handheld and docked mode. However, Valve's speedy removal of this leaked information does hint at the possibility that fans might have to wait a little longer for the dock to become available. On the other hand, Valve may simply want to control the marketing around the dock's release a bit more directly rather than unceremoniously announcing after some spec details.
Whether or not the dock is coming out this year, the main draw of the Steam Deck appears to be its portability. Connecting it to a TV or monitor is a nice addition, but it probably isn't the primary reason gamers are shelling out hundreds of dollars for a model. Gamers won't have to wait much longer for this highly anticipated device - hopefully, it can live up to its expectations.
The Steam Deck will be launching on February 25.
