While never worry about burning through money but at the same time, it's frustrating that aside from spending it on gear, Credits don't really serve a purpose.

Over on Nexus Mods, creator 0xDezzy wants to amend this issue with their mod "StarFinance" which introduces a wealth of systems to Starfield designed to make Credits feel more useful. With the add-on installed, players will be able to set up a personal bank , take out loans that will need to be paid back, and even maintain their credit score to ensure they earn a decent interest rate. The system is ambitious in of what it wants to introduce to Starfield and the best part is that it's still growing.

What Else Is Included In StarFinance?

The Wolf Of New Atlantis

"StarFinance" is still in the early stages of development but 0xDezzy has promised some impressive additions to the mod. Perhaps most exciting are the "consequences" for players who fail to pay back any loans as GalBank dispatches bounty hunters to bring down the target and collect what's owed. Additionally, s who want to make savvy investments will be able to rent out properties to NPCs and even set up entire lease agreements that can be customized.

The "StarFinance" mod will eventually allow players to take on mortgages on properties and slowly pay them off over a while.

No doubt the biggest aspect of the mod will be the stock exchange which will allow players to invest their hard-earned Credits into a constantly fluctuating market. Doing so will grant s access to a portfolio that grants them hands-on on their various investments allowing them to make smart decisions on when to invest further or withdraw whatever cash they may have already placed in shares or stocks. Based on the descriptions, it sounds like a whole game within Starfield, making the sci-fi RPG even more gigantic.

This Is A Space Investment Property

A Starfield character stands in front of the ovalline Dream Home with their arms outspread. The Dream Home itself sits on a cliff, with decks surrounding it and a tall central tower.

Although not implemented in the mod yet, "StarFinance" hopes to add a rent system along with its mortgage and property ownership system. In the future, it may be possible to purchase properties as investments and rent them out to other astronauts in the Settled System for a ive means of income. The mod creator is working on ways to create and manage lease agreements with "customizable and conditions."

The teased feature leads to the immediate realization that there are likely no rental laws or regulations in Starfield's universe — and unscrupulous property managers may be able to get away with providing sub-par living conditions for an exorbitant rate. The concept that maybe Bethesda could add space stations in the future adds a whole new realm of possibilities for this functionality.

One Starfield perk lets you start with a Dream Home from the very beginning. It’s a beautiful piece of real estate, but also comes at a huge cost.

That said, this could be crucial in building someone's Credit empire, as these funds could then be invested in the game's theoretical stock market to increase wealth. In a game as expansive as Starfield, it's somewhat surprising that there is currently no means for ive Credit generation, even if most will have an absurd amount of credits by the end of their playthroughs. Manually loading and selling mined resources or items from Outposts is no one's version of fun.

Though the rise of apps like Robinhood seems to indicate that more people are interested in financial literacy, there's still a significant lack of understanding of more complicated financial concepts. According to the World Economic Forum, around 50% of Americans lack financial literacy based on data from 2024. StarFinance's banks — while a simplified version of the American banking system, do accurately reflect what it means to take out a loan or pay for something with accruing interest. Though interest rates aren't currently in the mod, it's something that's planned for the future.

In addition, the mod will also come to feature a Credit Score function, highlighting one of the more confusing aspects of the American financial system. Paying off your loan will increase your credit score, much like in real life. Although finance isn't necessarily always the most compelling thing, especially in a universe where you can enter Unity and interact with multiple universes, the "StarFinance" mod provides an avenue for real learning while also providing a simple solution for all those accrued Credits by the end of a playthrough.

This score is pretty accurate, too, ranging anywhere from 350 (bad) to 850 (exceptional).

Given the level of customization in "StarFinance," it wouldn't be surprising to see Bethesda either officially include a stock market mechanic in a future update or DLC. If the mod gains traction, it's also possible that it It may be common for modders to create flashy additions to Starfield, but sometimes, the most impressive creations are backed by the invisible hand.
