The player shooting at a void enemy in Starfield: Shattered Space.

Starfield seemed to come and go in 2023 without leaving much of a lasting impression. The game released with good reviews overall, but the fan response was more mixed, with several fans criticizing the outdated feel of the modern Bethesda game, the load screens, and the lack of meaningful exploration. The game has been mixed-to-negative response, and the game has seemingly been on life since.

It's ionate fans like Monkey19 that are keeping the game alive right now. A second official expansion is coming at some point, but it seems like it will need to be quite different from Shatter Space to hit with the current Starfield audience and get new players interested. Until then, there are a lot of fan mods for Starfield, and a sequel to one of the better ones coming should still be exciting for the game's community.
