One Stardew Valley player took their in-game marriage to Shane very seriously by preparing their house for his arrival in a hilarious way. There are many popular options for marriage in the beloved indie farming and life sim. Shane is not the most beloved option for players, to put it mildly. The Bachelor frequently places low on rankings of marriageable characters in the title, with many fans being put off by his rudeness, problematic behavior, and surprisingly dark character development for what is otherwise a wholesome cozy game.
For Josefugly on Reddit, however, marrying Shane was a choice they didn't take lightly. When Shane moves into the player's farm in Stardew Valley, his room becomes a mess of trash and muddy footprints.
Other players have tried to cover the mess by decorating around it with plants and other decorative items. Josefugly, however, decided to embrace Shane's imperfections by decorating the rest of their home to better fit with his aesthetic.
Player Decorates Stardew Valley Home To Embrace Shane's Imperfections
Some Fans Feel Called Out On Their Real-World Habits
Instead of trying to hide Shane's side of the house like many other players, Redditor Josefugly matched their home to his hobo-chic style. The Redditor filled their home with random objects and trash like empty bottles, trash bags, clothes on the floor, and other messy bits from the Trash Catalogue. The character even puts on the rare Garbage Hat, which is simply a trash can lid worn on their head.

10 Weird Items You Didn't Know Existed in Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is home to a number of weird and wonderful items you might not know exist, even if you have hundreds of hours in the game.
Some comments in the Reddit thread praise Josefugly for their use of the trash items to present a realistic marriage of compromise and acceptance. Redditor balcon gives the home "five stars for originality" and calls it "a work of art," noting that they'd never seen anyone actually manage to pull off a house that integrates Shane's room this well. Others feel called out, like amglasgow, who asks, "How did you get a look at my RL bedroom to make a SDV copy of it?"
Stardew Valley's Shane Is Not Mean, Just Misunderstood
Accepting The Character Is A Mark Of How Welcoming The Community Is
Shane's apparent meanness can prevent players from getting to know him further than a polite hello, and this is exactly the point. The character struggles with letting people near him and often prefers the company of his chicken, Charlie. The more players get to know Shane, the clearer it becomes that he's a complex and unhappy person.
Becoming more familiar with Shane reveals more depth to the character and makes the mess in his room more sad than annoying. Fans of Shane will find some solace in knowing that there are players like Josefugly, who accept the character for all his flaws. Although the post may have been intended as tongue-in-cheek, I like to think that it's another real case of a member of the Stardew Valley community being unbelievably wholesome and welcoming, even to a fictional character.
