One Stardew Valley fan had a major stroke of luck getting an ancient seed on day one of their farm, but some other fans think this may have cursed their entire playthrough. Starting a farm in Stardew Valley can be very time-consuming and takes a lot of effort. Everyone practically starts from zero, just the untouched land and the cabin, to shape into whatever a player dreams of.

One player, who goes by waynehanz11 on Reddit, was hacking down all of their weeds while also plowing the land to get started with farming when they got rewarded with an ancient seed. Typically, when tilling the soil, players can find themselves yielding items such as cave carrots or mixed seeds, but this time, they magically came across this extremely rare seed. It is very hard to find, nearly impossible for some, as there is no way to purchase the seed as is; it is purely reliant on luck.

Ancient seeds are usually found when plowing artifact spots, areas that look like worms are sticking out of them. When digging up these spots, it can give players an ancient seed, as an artifact, that then can either be . That being said, it usually has a 0.7% chance of yielding one, making it extremely hard to get.

Day One Ancient Seeds Could Be A Bad Omen, Stardew Valley Fans Think

It Might Look Like Luck To Some

Just one of the ancient fruits, with a gold star rating, sells for 825 gold, making this find even more extraordinary. In addition, a seed maker can help with growing even more after. Normally, this would be considered super lucky, but others seem to think this means their playthrough is doomed. For instance, AkadirTheCarGuy warns waynehanz11 to place a scarecrow before planting it that, "[...] weird gameplay is waiting for [them]."

With such luck on the first day, other fans think they are doomed for the rest of the playthrough, as all their luck was spent on finding the ancient seed. This is why many warn waynehanz11 to use scarecrows, as they think their crops are going to get eaten instantly, taking away their rare find. The crows eating seeds are based on luck too, more so unluckiness, resulting in all their hard work being gone.

Stardew Fans Reassure The Poster That Scarecrows Aren't Needed

This Seed Is Not Like Any Other Seed

Unlike everyone's fears of the crows, waynehanz11 is probably more likely to continue their winning streak, as the ancient seed does not require any protection. As mentioned by Jazzicots, "[players] can have up to 15 crop plants on your farm at a time and not have it be attacked by crows." This can be very helpful to know, especially at the beginning of the game, as players have to work around the given budget.

Another player is so lucky that they didn't even realize that getting an ancient seed early in the game is unusual. LazyJohnny9 chimes into the conversation, asking innocently if it's really that rare to get an ancient seed. They add, "I've only done 2 playthroughs of Stardew Valley and I've gotten an ancient seed twice in the first spring." Other players were amazed at their luck, pointing out that the chances of getting an ancient seed that early is minuscule and that most players get theirs much later in the game. This means there are probably other players out there who are having incredibly lucky playthroughs and have no idea how rare their finds are.

For some, though, a rare find early in the playthrough can be terrible, since many players don't know the value of that they have until they get more experience in the game. Reddit found a prismatic shard on the very second day of their first-ever playthrough. Not realizing how rare the item was, they gave it away, stating that "it was devastating."
