  • Upgrading the Galaxy Sword into the Infinity Blade makes it the strongest sword in the game, offering a powerful reward for dedicated players.

It is unsurprising that one of the strongest items in Stardew Valley is full of secrets, but this particular puzzle is among the game’s oldest, while the reward remains one of its best despite changes made through later updates. As a result, although it is possible to expedite matters with prior knowledge, the intended method of obtaining this item undoubtedly adds an extra layer of fun to the later stages of the game.

The more someone plays Stardew Valley, the more there is to discover. Although the core gameplay remains a farming simulator, exploring the valley in any amount of detail will lead to the Farmer uncovering a rich world full of life and mystery. From the Junimos of the Community Center to the rare appearance of Stardew Valley’s Stange Capsule on the farm, the game’s many curiosities arguably make it more engaging the longer it is played. Uncovering various secrets also provides an entertaining diversion from the core gameplay loop, helping to keep the game engaging over long periods of time.

Stardew Valley players share their discovery of what has been described as the "ultimate 1.6 secret" which also serves as a small crossover.

How To Find The Galaxy Sword In Stardew Valley

Translating A Gravestone With The Dwarvish Translation Guide

Among the gravestones found in Pelican Town’s small graveyard, one is inscribed with initially seems like nonsense. In reality, the rightmost gravestone’s text is written in the Dwarvish language, which requires the Dwarvish Translation Guide to understand. Acquiring the Guide is a lengthy process in itself, all but guaranteeing that this secret will not be uncovered until the player is deep into the game. This is perhaps for the best, as the translated text is a riddle giving people all the information they need to acquire the Galaxy Sword: one of the strongest weapons in Stardew Valley.

The translated gravestone text is as follows:

Stand between the pillars three

With gift as precious as the sky:

A rainbow forged from land, not sea

Then galaxies will heed your cry.

Although the reference to the Galaxy Sword in the final line of the translated poem is best recognized in retrospect, the overall implication is clear: if one stands between three pillars with a specific item, then something special will occur. Moreover, the “pillars three” described can be found in the northeast section of the Calico Desert, and are easily identified by being arranged in a triangular formation. Of course, unlocking the desert itself takes time, but that also means it will likely be accessible by the time the Translation Guide is acquired and the gravestone deciphered.

The Dwarvish Translation Guide itself is obtained by donating the four Dwarf Scrolls to the Museum, which in turn requires some lucky adventures into the Mine to collect the ancient relics via tilling and monster drops. Happily, this means that collecting the scrolls also provides plenty of opportunities to collect the requisite item to present at the three pillars. The “rainbow forged from land” is in fact a Prismatic Shard, with the deliberate exclusion of rainbows originating from the “sea” serving to prevent any confusion over Stardew Valley’s water-originating Rainbow Trout and Rainbow Shell.

Stardew Valley’s Galaxy Sword Appears To Be Connected To The Dwarves

How Get & Use The Prismactic Shard

The Dwarf in Stardew Valley's Mine.

Although Prismatic Shards are among the rarest materials in the game, it is worth noting that one can be bought from Emily for 500 Calico Eggs during Stardew Valley’s Desert Festival; the shared location creates a useful synergy for using it to get the Galaxy Sword. But regardless of how the Farmer gets their Prismatic Shard, doubtlessly after many hours of hard work, the final step of obtaining their new weapon is incredibly simple. One merely needs to walk into the center of the pillars with the Prismatic Shard in hand, and a short cutscene will trigger.

According to the in-game description of this event, the Prismatic Shard physically transforms into the Galaxy Sword. Although the reasons for this are left unexplained, the circumstances suggest that the Farmer has just completed some form of magic ritual. The fact that the original instructions were written in Dwarvish may indicate that the subterranean people had a hand in the original devising of this ritual, which could tie into their suggested origins as an alien species. After all, it would be very fitting for a group of aliens to provide instructions on how to create a weapon named after galaxies.

However, it is ultimately unclear just what connection the Dwarves have to the Galaxy Sword because, as with some other mysteries in Stardew Valley, the Farmer simply does not have access to all of the relevant information. The origins of the pillars in the Desert, and what magic may be fueling them, is simply left to the imagination. Although with that being said, the fact that this secret revolves around the creation of a weapon may be connected to the Elemental Wars, an ancient conflict which the Dwarves and Shadow People took part in.

The Infinity Blade Is The Strongest Sword In Stardew Valley

How To Upgrade The Galaxy Sword

A Galaxy Sword being upgraded in Stardew Valley's Forge.

Notably, the Galaxy Sword can actually be upgraded into what is described as its “true form”, the Infinity Blade. Doing so requires access to the Forge, which can be used to combine the Galaxy Sword with a Galaxy Soul and 20 Cinder Shards three times. The resultant Infinity Blade is the strongest sword in the game, dealing 80-100 damage, although this is still not the strongest weapon in the game overall.

There are currently two weapons capable of dealing more damage than the Infinity Blade in Stardew Valley. The first is the Infinity Gavel, created by upgrading the Galaxy Hammer (purchasable from Marlon after gaining the Galaxy Blade) in the same way as the Galaxy Blade. The second is the Master Slingshot when using Iridium Ore as ammunition. The former deals 100-120 damage, whilst the latter’s damage ranges from 50 to an incredible 202.

Obtaining the Galaxy Blade is arguably easy to miss, given that finding the instructions to do so in-game requires examining a specific gravestone, and even harder to actually do given the rarity of the items involved. However, the reward for doing so is fully worth the time and effort to do so. The Galaxy Blade is the second-best sword in Stardew Valley, can be upgraded into the strongest sword, and is one of the best weapons in the entire game regardless; a perfect reward for those dedicated enough to see the puzzle posed by a seemingly-simple gravestone to its conclusion.
