Stardew Valley has sold more than 10 million copies and been ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
Life simulators have been around for a long time, but Stardew Valley was a lot of people’s first exposure to the genre, or at the one that got them hooked most. That could have something to do with the sheer hype about the game and its availability across platforms, but it’s also just an incredibly deep and well-made game, which is even more impressive given that it was created by just one person. Since Stardew Valley’s release, it’s become a touchpoint for the entire life sim genre, with subsequent life sims being compared to it as a default. It’s even overtaken Harvest Moon, one of the earliest and most popular life sims, as the pinnacle of the genre for many players.
After all the acclaim Stardew Valley has garnered over the past four years, it’s finally getting the collector’s edition it deserves. recently revealed Untitled Goose Game Lovely Edition, the Stardew Valley Collector’s Edition is aiming to be as ecologically friendly as possible, with wood and paper products coming from recycled or responsibly harvested sources. Stardew Valley Collector's Edition will be available on PC and Switch.
Four years after its release, developer Eric Barone is still working on Stardew Valley, releasing regular patches and occasionally large content updates for the popular game. The developer also took publishing rights of Stardew Valley back from Chucklefish after the publisher was accused of worker exploitation. On top of that, Barone is also working on another game, though he’s cautioned fans that he’s not aiming to duplicate Stardew Valley’s success.
The increasing popularity of digital s has made it easier than ever for indie developers to distribute their games, but some players still feel like they’re missing something by not being able to buy physical editions. Indie releases like the Stardew Valley Collector’s Edition help bridge the gap by making high-quality physical releases available to those who want them while still keeping games easily accessible in digital editions.
Stardew Valley is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms.
