Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The Acolyte episode 7
Summary
- Sol's mistake in The Acolyte echoes Luke Skywalker's from The Last Jedi.
- Both Jedi's actions led young Force-sensitives to dark side corruptions and intense guilt.
- Sol's murder of Mother Aniseya led Mae to the dark side, while Luke's moment where he considered killing his nephew led Ben to the dark side before the sequels.
The Acolyte has just repeated one of the most controversial Jedi mistakes from Sol (Lee Jung-jae) mirrors the same error made by Luke Skywalker, one that resulted in the loss of his Jedi academy before the events of the sequel trilogy.
As pointed out by Twitter/X @darthnoire, Sol's reactionary murder of Mother Aniseya mirrors the moment in which Luke Skywalker briefly considered killing his own nephew Ben Solo after sensing the darkness within him:
Both instances in the established Star Wars timeline saw Sol and Luke Skywalker reacting with seemingly noble intentions. However, both acts also had grave consequences in the aftermath, leading to dark-side corruptions for those they should have protected and intense levels of guilt on both their parts.

"Noble Intentions"
Desperately wanting to save Osha and fearing for her safety, Sol wished to make Osha his Padawan in The Acolye episode 7 flashback after she decided to become a Jedi. However, the discovery of her and Mae's origins resulted in a tense confrontation between the witches and the Jedi, one where Sol misread Mother Aniseya's attempt to save Mae as a malicious threat against Osha. As a result, Sol rashly kills Aniseya with his lightsaber, only to realize too late that she was just trying to get Mae out of harm's way, and also intended to let Osha leave with the Jedi.
Sol's intentions were noble yet misplaced, much like Luke Skywalker's highly controversial Last Jedi moment where he feared all that Ben Solo would become and would destroy should he continue down his dark path. Rather than trying to help his nephew overcome his darkness, Luke briefly considers killing Ben to avoid the future pain and suffering he could bring. Despite the moment ing, it was enough for Ben to feel betrayed by his uncle and master, cementing his dark side path with Snoke and the future First Order.
Both Sol & Luke Accidentally Led Children To The Dark Side
The Jedi Aren't Without Their Flaws
Tragically, the aftermath was very much the same for both Jedi. The death of Mother Aniseya and Sol choosing Osha results in Mae's turn to the dark side, becoming the acolyte of Qimir aka The Stranger. Likewise, Luke's moment of weakness guaranteed the loss of his nephew to the dark side as well as his Jedi academy. Likewise, both Jedi were subsequently wracked with guilt, serving as prime examples that the Jedi are still fallible despite their noble intentions. As such, it will be very interesting to see Master Sol's fate now that the truth is emerging in the present-day events of The Acolyte.
