Six months after The Acolyte's controversies were absurd (did anyone really care about Ki-Adi-Mundi's age?). Lucasfilm canceled The Acolyte rather than renew it for a second season, and there's largely been radio silence from the studio since then.
Six months after The Acolyte's cancelation, things are beginning to change. Lucasfilm has just released the last official badges for Star Wars Celebration 2025, and they include two from The Acolyte - one featuring Amandla Stenberg's Osha as she bleeds her lightsaber, the other showing Manny Jacinto's mysterious Sith Lord (known as the Stranger) dueling Lee Jung-Jae's Master Sol. You can see all eight of the stunning new badges, by the artist TAKUMI, below:
The Acolyte Will Have A Significant Presence At Star Wars Celebration... & Its Story Is Far From Over
This Is A Big Surprise From Lucasfilm
Six months on, the stars of The Acolyte are beginning to speak about their pride in the The Acolyte's story is far from over, with several tie-in books due later this year.
The new badges have come as an unexpected delight to the portion of the fanbase who loved The Acolyte, and who were deeply wounded both by season 2's cancelation and Lucasfilm's frustrating radio silence in its aftermath. Unsurprisingly, #RenewTheAcolyte is now trending again on social media; I doubt it's going to happen, but it's really quite wonderful to see how committed the show's fanbase remains, and it can only be hoped repeat viewings will improve The Acolyte's performance. For now, though, one thing is clear; Lucasfilm is not just forgetting The Acolyte.
Our Take On The Acolyte's Future
Nothing Is Ever Truly Gone
This is the beauty of Star Wars; nothing is ever truly gone. Solo: A Star Wars Story was a box office bomb, leading to the cancelation of the entire anthology movies project, but its characters and concepts have been further developed in comics and novels. In the same way, The Acolyte may have been canceled, but it seems Lucasfilm is unwilling to simply give up on the concepts, ideas, and characters who were introduced into the galaxy through it.
Personally, I have great sympathy with the push to bring back The Acolyte. I don't expect the #RenewTheAcolyte campaign to be successful; the show's viewership was too low compared to its eye-watering budget, which is likely the real reason for the cancelation, rather than the controversies and scandals (although they won't have helped). But then, some years ago, I assumed the Snyder Cut campaign would be unsuccessful; so I can fully understand the fans deciding to continue their campaign.
