Ahead of this year's May 4th celebrations, Star Wars has shared their plans for a new "Tales of" series, a tradition for Star Wars Day that they are continuing from last year's Tales of the Empire. This format of Star Wars animated miniseries began with 2022's Tales of the Jedi, which followed both Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku through various periods in their lives. Barriss Offee and Morgan Elsbeth starred in Tales of the Jedi, and now, the franchise is moving to two iconic bounty hunters.
Star Wars has shared both the first trailer and a breathtaking poster for Imperial Inquisitor, and Cad Bane participating in yet another iconic shootout.
As for the poster, Ventress and Bane feature most prominently, but there are also new faces - including someone who may become Ventress' very own student. This series comes after Ventress' return was first glimpsed in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, following her supposed death in 2015's canon novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden. Bane seemed to meet his own fate in 2021's The Book of Boba Fett, but this series could prove that he actually survived the ordeal.
The Clone Wars actors Nika Futterman and Corey Burton are each returning to voice Ventress and Bane, respectively. Other cast include Lane Factor, AJ LoCascio, Clare Grant, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Eric Lopez. The series was created by Dave Filoni, who also serves as supervising director and executive producer, along with Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Additional crew include Josh Rimes as co-executive producer, Alex Spotswood as senior producer, and Matt Michnovetz as the writer.
What Tales Of The Underworld Means For Star Wars
The "Tales Of" Tradition Continues
This specific "Tales of" concept of following bounty hunters has long since seemed like the most obvious path for Star Wars, and thankfully, they have chosen two deeply beloved Star Wars characters. This story is a necessity for Ventress, as it will likely fill in the context for both how she survived the events of Dark Disciple and why she is currently involving herself with M-count bounties, as seen in The Bad Batch season 3.

Ventress Is Back... But There's Still Only One Story I Want To See
Asajj Ventress' most important Star Wars story hasn't been shown on screen yet, but I'm hoping an TV show will finally depict it.
Having further context for Cad Bane's own story is a surprise, but certainly a welcome one. Despite being one of the galaxy's most iconic, and most dangerous, bounty hunters, little is actually known about the Duros. Tales of the Underworld is set to take a look at Bane confronting someone from his past, which may help to inform audiences about who he was prior to his debut in The Clone Wars.
This TV Show Is Carrying On Several Iconic Star Wars Legacies
From Both The Lucas Era & The Disney Era
This series comes 20 years after George Lucas initially announced his Star Wars: Underworld live-action TV show, which never ended up being produced. As aforementioned, it's also carrying on its newer tradition of releasing a project every May 4th, specifically one in the "Tales of" format. It looks as if Star Wars is aiming to herald several legacies with this new animated TV show, ranging from the Lucas era to the Disney era.
Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld premieres May 4th on Disney+.
