Skeleton Crew’s New "Jedi" Character Explained: Who Is Jude Law’s Mysterious Prisoner?

Is This Prisoner Who He Claims To Be?

Jod Na Nawood In Star Wars Skeleton Crew

One of the main selling points of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew upon its announcement was the casting of Jude Law. Law has long been a popular actor in the world of mainstream Hollywood franchises and is finally making the transition to Star Wars via Skeleton Crew. In Skeleton Crew episodes 1 and 2, Law's character is largely absent before being properly introduced in the final scene of the latter. The character overhears the main children of Skeleton Crew's cast - Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB - talking after being imprisoned, revealing himself and some very intriguing abilities.

Law's character reveals that he can help the children escape from the pirate spaceport of Port Borgo before using the Force to lift the key to the prison cell towards him. Naturally, this sparks a lot of excitement in the children, especially Wim, who spends his days dreaming about being a Jedi. The mysterious character insists he is what he seems and that he can get the kids off of Port Borgo and back to their planet before Skeleton Crew episode 2 comes to an end. However, the show may have hinted that Law's Jedi is not who he seems.

The biggest tease that the character is not a benevolent Jedi comes in Skeleton Crew episode 1's opening scene. This sequence showcases a fantastic action set-piece, with a group of pirates storming a New Republic vessel for credits. These pirates are led by the masked Captain Silvo, whose intel that the ship is full of credits is revealed to have been false. Silvo's crew commits a mutiny, and the pirates do not appear again until the same group clashes with Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB on Port Borgo in Skeleton Crew episode 2.

As of Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending, he seems to be a pirate deceiving the kids into thinking their wildest fantasies have come true...

Putting the pieces together, it is all but confirmed that Jude Law's mysterious "Jedi" is not a Jedi at all, but Captain Silvo himself. Law's voice matches the one coming from Silvo's mask in Skeleton Crew's opening, and the character being imprisoned in the same place as the children - who were detained by Silvo's pirates - makes a lot of sense. More will undoubtedly be revealed about Law's character as the show goes on, but as of Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending, he seems to be a pirate deceiving the kids into thinking their wildest fantasies have come true.

The Skeleton Crew's Homeworld Is A Lost Treasure Planet With Possible High Republic Ties

At Attin Is More Than Meets The Eye

As it turns out, Jude Law's character is not the only mystery Skeleton Crew's story harbors. Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending reveals that At Attin, the home planet of the show's four main child characters, is somewhat of a legend among the galaxy's pirates. This is first teased when the children are first lost in space, and they ask their droid, SM-33, to get them back to At Attin. The droid says that the planet is not part of his memory databanks, despite being found on the ship that was buried there.

SM-33 is voiced by Nick Frost, known for his work with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright in the "Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy."

Later, upon asking for directions back to At Attin, Neel and Wim are met only with riotous laughter from the pirates on Port Borgo. The pirates insinuate that they too would like directions to At Attin before a scene details more about the planet's peculiar nature. Fern and KB are aided by a dancer from Port Borgo, who tells the children that they will need a better cover story than hailing from At Attin. The kids insist they are truly born there, leading the dancer to sarcastically ask whether they are really from the "lost planet of eternal treasure."

As Skeleton Crew goes on, more about At Attin will undoubtedly be revealed, with episode 1 providing hints that it may be tied to Star Wars' High Republic era. Fern's mother, Fara, appears in Skeleton Crew episode 1, driving the kids of her daughter's school to become functioning of society and continue the planet's "Great Work." This draws to mind the goal of a character from the vast expansion of High Republic books, set centuries before Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

The High Republic Era is full of significant events, both for the Jedi Order and the Republic it sought to protect long before the prequels.

The character in question is the Supreme Chancellor of the High Republic, Lina Soh. Throughout the books, Lina Soh is committed to multiple projects she calls the Great Works that will benefit the galaxy. This similar phrasing combines with other evidence like At Attin possessing Old Republic credits, the kids knowing what Jedi are despite most in the New Republic thinking they were myths, and the planet being hidden from the rest of the galaxy to raise the possibility that At Attin is connected in some way to the Hgih Republic, atop its fabled status as a treasure planet.

SM-33 Confirms As Much

SM-33 in Star Wars Skeleton Crew

It was confirmed when Skeleton Crew was announced that it would delve into the world of piracy in Star Wars. This was confirmed by the appearance of a character from The Mandalorian season 3, Vane. By the time of Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending, the reason for the show's piracy links becomes clear: the ship the children find on At Attin belonged to pirates. This is confirmed by the droid SM-33, who makes mention of his old pirate crew and his captain.

SM-33's name is a riff on Captain Hook's first mate, Mr. Smee. Interestingly, Skeleton Crew episode 2's director helmed Disney's Peter Pan & Wendy, also starring Jude Law.

Why Did The Pirates Of Port Borgo Attack The Kids In Skeleton Crew Episode 2?

The Kids Have Valuable Possessions - & Even More Valuable Information

Pirates in Star Wars Skeleton Crew

After tricking SM-33 into thinking Fern is his new captain, the droid takes his new crew to a strange location: Port Borgo. Borgo is essentially the hub of piracy in the galaxy, home to many scoundrels and criminals looking to gain an advantage over their competitors. In Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending, the kids are attacked by the pirates, forcing SM-33 to save them before they are thrown in jail with Jude Law's mystery character.

The leader of the pirates begins to question why they are on Port Borgo, how they got past the guards and canons, and likely wonders about the mentions of At Attin...

Regarding why the pirates attacked the kids, it has to do with At Attin. Wim shows off his Old Republic credits, causing many of the pirates to take an interest in him. Initially, the pirates attack as a means of stealing very valuable credits. However, the leader of the pirates begins to question why they are on Port Borgo, how they got past the guards and canons, and likely wonders about the mentions of At Attin. This scuffle is surely not the last run-in the kids of Skeleton Crew will have with pirates as they seek to return home, only now they have help from a mysterious "Jedi."
