High Republic Era as several are under the control of the Nihil. However, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis has suggested that there may be a way for the Jedi to gain the upper hand.

In The High Republic #8 by Cavan Scott and Jim Towe, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis and a team of fellow Jedi have defied the Council with a mission inside the Occlusion Zone, a sector of space controlled by Machion Ro and his Nihil marauders. Looking to save Trennis' old master Skeer and more Jedi who found themselves trapped behind enemy lines, Keeve's team has uncovered far more than they bargained for, including an encounter with the Nihil's Baron Boolan and his dark experiments. However, the issue ends with a very surprising move from Keeve herself.

Keeve Trennis Kills Nameless In HIgh Republic #8

Despite the baron having Nameless creatures at his disposal which he's upgraded with cybernetics, Keeve manages to decapitate one of the Nameless with a well-placed lightsaber swing. This is quite the feat for a Force-sensitive Jedi, especially considering the typical paralysis the Nameless can induce upon even the strongest Jedi, draining their life force until they're nothing more than a calcified, crumbling husk.

Is Keeve Trennis Overcoming The Power of The Nameless?

She May Be Becoming Immune

Keeve Trennis Withstands Nameless' Powers

Unwilling to let the quasi-reformed Lourna Dee be killed by one of the baron's Nameless, Keeve somehow found it within herself to resist the Nameless' paralytic powers that can lead to dark, fear-filled hallucinations. While she was still affected by the creature to a degree, the fact that Keeve was still able to fight back is quite remarkable. However, the issue does not reveal the source of Trennis' newfound resistance, or if other Jedi could also replicate this teased immunity.

Given the fact that Keeve has gone rogue and has defied the Jedi Council, it can certainly be argued that she's been giving into her emotions to a greater degree than most Jedi typically do. To that end, perhaps dipping outside the traditional tenants of the Jedi Path could hold the key to resisting the Nameless. However, that could easily become a slippery slope, one that could likely open the door to greater temptation from the dark side.

Resisting The Nameless Could Be Huge For The High Republic's Jedi

Ending The Conflict With The Nihil Marauders

High Republic Jedi and the Nihil.

This potential new resistance to the Nameless via darker methods might also tie into the reason why Keeve is most likely the same "Master Trennis" who's canonically referenced as one of the Lost Twenty, a group of Jedi Masters over the generations who chose to leave the Jedi Order (such as Count Dooku). In any event, discovering a way to build up some sort of immunity to the Nameless' power could prove to be too valuable for the Jedi Order to up, seeing as how the creatures have been their primary obstacle to defeating the Nihil thus far in the High Republic Era.
