The newest a shocking betrayal by C-3PO. However, new information suggests that Ajax Sigma's greatest plans have yet to be unveiled.

An official plot synopsis for Charles Soule and Luke Ross' Dark Droids #2, provided by League of Comic Geeks, suggests that the Scourge is an entirely independent entity separate from Ajax Sigma. This is revealed when the summary states that "warrior-priest AJAX SIGMA and the sentient droids of the SECOND REVELATION" are actually "standing in its way." This completely disrupts what fans have speculated about the Scourge for months, as it turns out Sigma has nothing to do with this horrifying galactic threat. In fact, in order for them to carry out their revolutionary plans, they'll need to see that the Scourge is destroyed once and for all.

This Droid Army Rides a Fine Line Between Good and Evil

What's interesting about this reveal is that it shows Ajax Sigma and his new class of droids, the Second Revelation, don't fit neatly into a black and white box labeled "good" or "evil." They're more gray, with motivations falling into both heroism and villainy as they seek to liberate droids from the Empire and Rebellion while also saving them from the Scourge's onslaught. It completely warps the idea of a "dark side" and a "light side" similar to how Benicio del Toro's character DJ does in The Last Jedi when he shows Finn that the owner of the ship they've stolen builds ships and weaponry for both the Resistance and the First Order. The Second Revelation has their own plans in mind, and it's impossible to say whether they're good or evil when their actions can be perceived as both from a certain point of view.

So What Exactly Is The Scourge?

Dark Droids The Scourge

With this information in mind, it begs the question of what exactly the Scourge is if it's not on the side of Ajax Sigma or the Second Revelation. The answer is potentially something much darker. This ultimately sets up the Scourge as a dark hive mind that seeks "total domination over all mechanical intelligence." When it achieves this goal, it will be able to destroy both the Empire and Rebellion from within without warning. This is perhaps the reason why Ajax Sigma is so vehmently against the Scourge because it's actually controlling droids, not liberating them. Sigma just wants droids to be free from the control that lifeforms have placed on them, and the Scourge is taking their independence away to take out their biggest enemies.

It will be interesting to see Ajax Sigma and his band of rebel droids work alongside the very people they want to free themselves from in order to take out the Scourge's tightening grip on the galaxy. When the Dark Droids event is over, Sigma will undoubtedly go back to planning how they can free their fellow droids in an uprising. For now though, the enemy of their enemy is their friend, and this mindset is key to ensuring Sigma and the Second Revelation's survival as they completely break the mold of what's considered good and evil in the Star Wars universe.
