Warning! Spoilers for Marvel's Rise of Skywalker comic adaptation!
Marvel's Star Wars comics are giving fans more Rose Tico, expanding the storyline of the most sorely overlooked character from the sequels. As an engineer and member of the Resistance connected to the main characters, Rose Tico should have played a larger role overall. However, the comics are gearing up to allow Rose to shine.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #1 – written by Jody House, with art by Will Sliney – gives Rose a significant moment, as she plays a pivotal role in the final conflict between the Resistance and the First Order.
Star Wars fans were disappointed by how greatly the character's screen-time was diminished between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, and now Marvel's adaptation of Episode IX seeks to rectify that, restoring Rose Tico to a place of prominence in franchise canon.

In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance – facing a massive Sith fleet – had to rely on a network of allies. Even with allies and Resistance ships, a victory was unlikely unless the Resistance could weaken the fleet. In response, Finn and Jannah lead a ground assault on the command ship, disabling its navigation signal. This caused the Sith ships to lose coordination and become vulnerable to the combined Resistance attack. Not much is explained about how Finn and Jannah knew exactly which devices to disable on the massive ships, only what the result would be.

Star Wars Explains Rise Of Skywalker's Hyperspace Plot Hole
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker broke lightspeed in its bizarre hyperspace skimming - but now Star Wars is finally explaining how that happened.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #1 illustrates that the mastermind behind the coordinated attack was none other than Rose Tico. The issue shows General Leia Organa and Rose watching Rey, Finn, and Poe fly off into the distance; their own mission being to finish Luke’s work in locating the planet Exegol. Leia notes that even if the crew finds Exegol, they will need the capacity to fly there and find the weakness in the Sith fleet, "assuming they even have one." Rose’s reply is simple: "Trust me. They always do."
Marvel's Long-Awaited "Rise Of Skywalker" Adaptation Finally Gives Rose A Prominent Role
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #1 Shows Just How Important Rose Is
The scene between Leia and Rose in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker #1 has massive implications for the success of the Resistance’s battle against the Sith on Exegol. While it is currently unclear if the remainder of the comic will further elaborate on Rose’s work and exactly how she determined the ships’ weaknesses, the realization that Rose was the one to find that weakness in the first place makes her one of the most important players in the final battle. Without Rose and her engineering prowess, the Resistance would never have been able to outwit such a formidable foe.
Rose’s presence in the Star Wars Universe underscores the idea that heroes can come from any background, and the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comic is rightfully expanding on her significance.
