Since its premiere in 1977, Rogue One took fans back to where it all started.

Following a ragtag group of Rebels determined to free the galaxy from the oppressive control of the Empire, many fans consider Rogue One to be the best-written Star Wars film after the original trilogy. Filled with an array of memorable and meaningful quotes, some even manage to fully capture the characters' personalities in just a single line.

Cassian Andor

"Suddenly The Rebellion Is Real For You? Some Of Us Live It"

Cassian Andor in Rogue One A Star Wars Story

A dedicated spy for the Rebel Alliance, the whole driving force of Cassian Andor's (Diego Luna) character is his commitment to making sure the Rebels succeed because of the horrors he's witnessed throughout his entire life.

Initially, he is easily frustrated with Jyn's lack of motivation for the cause despite the two of them having similarly traumatic childhoods due to the evils of the Empire. He later spells it out for her: "You're not the only one who lost everything. Some of us just decided to do something about it."

Galen Erso

"You’re Confusing Peace With Terror"

Galen Erso

A kindhearted and peaceful scientist, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) was once best friends with Orson Krennic but fled the Empire to live the isolated life of a farmer after learning his work was being used to create weapons.

Galen is a true pacifist, and it speaks to his character that even after all these years, he still has hopes for peace as he repeatedly attempts to reason with his cruel old friend.

K-2SO

"I'll Be There For You. Cassian Said I Had To"

A towering KX-series droid originally made to serve among the droids in the Galactic Empire, K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) was reprogrammed by Cassian and took on quite the quirky personality.

Sassy, sarcastic, and generally a bit of a rebel himself, his true loyalty is to his Captain. Cynical yet well-meaning, K-2SO generally does what Cassian asks, but makes no promises when it comes to enthusiasm.

Director Krennic

"We Stand Here Amidst My Achievement. Not Yours!"

Highly ambitious and desperate for power and recognition, nothing is more intrinsic to the Director's character than loudly ranting about what he is owed for all to hear.

Though he is a charismatic and capable manager, Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) is quick to anger if his achievements are challenged - especially when it comes to the Death Star program.

Saw Gerrera

"Save The Rebellion! Save The Dream!"

Saw Gererra (Forest Whitaker) is an imioned resistance fighter who formed his own group of rebels after he was shunned from the Alliance for his more radical tactics against the Galactic Empire. Rebellion is at the core of who he is.

A warrior that fights for everyone "not to lose what they've got," he has made a life refusing to apologize for the way that he's chosen to do that, and is happy to give his life for his cause.

 Governor Tarkin

"Failure Will Find You Explaining Why To A Far Less Patient Audience"

Governor Wilhuff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) is a calm, calculating, and ruthless leader who fears few - even Lord Vader. He has no time for Krennic's tantrums, coolly responding to them like he might be a child furious over the loss of his favorite toy.

Ever ominous and commanding, he has no qualms with adding a touch of a threat to his words to show Krennic who truly has the power in their relationship.

Chirrut Imwe

"I Am One With The Force, And The Force Is With Me"

Easily one of the most likable ing characters in the movie, Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) is driven by his incredible faith and unrelenting belief in the Force and the ways of the Jedi, even in the darkest of times. This is often shown by his regular prayer, meditation, and formidable fighting skills.

He also proved to be a great physical and spiritual warrior who lives his life with kindness and an easy-going sense of humor.

Baze Malbus

"I Protected You"

Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) isn't as easily swayed by spiritual ideals as his friend. Frequently frustrated that Chirrut puts himself into dangerous situations believing the Force will save him, he has no problem letting him know that he is often the one protecting him from blaster fire.

Despite the differences in their beliefs, Baze's jokes and ive aggression stems from his protectiveness over those close to him, and he even seems to have an underlying iration for Chirrut's faith.

Bodhi Rook

"This Is For You, Galen"

Introduced as anxious and unsure, Bodhi Rock (Riz Ahmed) consistently doubts his abilities as a Rebel and a pilot, revealing he only defected from the Empire because Galen convinced him he was brave enough to do it.

Using Galen's confidence in him as his driving force, Bodhi pushes past his fears for the good of the Rebellion and to honor his late friend.

Jyn Erso

"Rebellions Are Built On Hope"

Jyn Erso in Rogue One

Originally Cassian's words, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) repeating the iconic line truly brings her character full circle. Jyn began as jaded and distrustful, but ended her story by accepting her role as leader of their ragtag crew, and embracing the hardships that made her who she is rather than running from a new family after losing her own so many years ago.

This eventually allowed her to embark on a mission that would destroy the Death Star and save countless lives from the oppressions of the Galactic Empire.
