Star Wars Squadrons puts players in the cockpit of their very own starship, playing through massive space battles between the Empire and Rebel Alliance. Each side features four different classes of ships for players to control, and on top of multiplayer Squadrons features a lengthy single-player mode.

Squadrons' story mode will, of course, be canon in the larger Star Wars universe, which means there are quite a few characters that might pop up. The reveal trailer already featured Wedge Antilles, and the latest trailer at Gamescom put Hera Syndulla, from Star Wars Rebels, front and center.

Hera has remained a fan-favorite character even after the end of Star Wars Rebels, so it's not a huge surprise she'd appear again. Of course, fans might be wondering what exactly Hera is up to in Star Wars Squadrons.

When Squadrons Takes Place and How Hera Factors In

Star Wars Squadrons Pilots

Star Wars Squadrons takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi, in the wake of the Battle of Endor and destruction of the second Death Star. Players alternate between two pilots, one that flies in the New Republic's Vanguard Squadron and the other in the Empire's Titan Squadron. By the Battle of Endor, Shadow Fall also introduces Hera's battle group called the Barma Battle Group, with her ship the Lodestar at its head.

With all that in mind, it's not surprising that Hera would play a prominent role in Star Wars Squadrons. Considering she's a general when Squadrons takes place, Hera is likely the one giving the Vanguard Squadron their orders. With the New Republic in its infancy, taking down the remnant of the Empire is a huge focus and there are few more qualified to lead the charge than Hera. She'll no doubt have her hands full in Squadrons, but fans can expect her to see her at least a few times, even if she doesn't the battle herself.

Star Wars Squadrons launches on October 2, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
