Summary

  • Ahsoka introduces the mysterious location known as Peridea, which appears to either be a new galaxy - or a planet on the rim of this galaxy.
  • Lady Morgan Elsbeth is searching for a starmap that leads to Peridea, a place known as a legend to the Jedi but has ties to the Nightsisters.
  • The space whales known as purrgil are confirmed to travel between galaxies through hyperspace and have a migration route to Peridea, potentially posing a navigational hazard to starships.

Ahsoka unveiled the pathway to Peridea, unlocking an entire new galaxy for Star Wars and transforming the entire franchise. Behind every legend there is a fragment of truth, and that's even the case with Jedi myths. The Ahsoka Disney+ TV show revealed the truth behind a Jedi fairy tale, and the scale of this story is absolutely staggering.

Ahsoka kicked off with Lady Morgan Elsbeth's quest for an ancient starmap that would show her the pathway to Peridea - the place where Ahsoka season 2, but here's everything that is known to date.

Grand iral Thrawn Was Transported To Peridea By Purrgil

Grand iral Thrawn, the greatest of the Imperial Grand irals, disappeared at least nine years ago during the Battle of Lothal in Star Wars Rebels' finale. Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger summoned a flock of purrgil, Star Wars' space whales, to pull Thrawn's flagship away into hyperspace. Lady Morgan Elsbeth realized that the purrgil transported Thrawn, Ezra, and the flagship away to a distant planet that some call Peridea - a place known to the Jedi as the stuff of legend.

Peridea Is The Homeworld Of The Nightsisters - & Is Found In Another Galaxy

Ahsoka revealed that Peridea is a planet situated in another galaxy. It was once homeworld of the Nightsisters, a Force cult whose mysterious Star Wars galaxy called the Zeffo, given translated runes on Peridea referred to an ancient dark side Zeffo called Kujet.

This revelation - apparently recorded in Jedi fairy tales, according to dark Jedi Baylan Skoll - completely rewrites Star Wars. Since 1977 Star Wars has always been focused on the adventures of heroes and villains of just the one galaxy. Even the Star Wars Expanded Universe only dabbled a little with intergalactic ideas, most notably in the Yuuzhan Vong, initially believed to be extragalactic invaders. It's impossible to overstate the scale of this change in Star Wars lore.

It's important to note that Dave Filoni's Ahsoka Disney+ TV show seems to have drawn on Arthurian mythology for inspiration - but with a dark twist. Character names are drawn from Arthurian legends (Lady Morgan and Marrok being classic examples), and Grand iral Thrawn is being positioned as the Empire's King Arthur - the once and future king who will return in the Empire's darkest hour. Peridea seems to be inspired by the island of Avalon, a place of sorcery where Arthur was taken for healing.

There Are Two Ways To Travel To Peridea

Purrgils in Mandalorian Season 3

Lady Morgan's starmap confirmed the space whales known as purrgil are capable of traveling between the galaxies. These creatures consume vast quantities of hyperspace fuel to open tunnels through hyperspace (known as simu-tunnels). Purrgil simu-tunnels can potentially pose a navigational hazard to starships when they bisect popular hyperspace trade routes, but fortunately they tend to follow set migration routes, meaning it's possible to predict their paths. Lady Morgan's starmap shows what seems to be one such purrgil migration route that es through the intergalactic void to Peridea.

Meanwhile, Lady Morgan successfully created the Eye of Sion - a vessel capable of traveling across intergalactic space. It was powered by a unique circular configuration of hyperdrive units taken from Super Star Destroyers, giving it the necessary power to make the journey. The Eye of Sion can also be locked on to other ships, as seen when it attached itself to Grand iral Thrawn's flagship, the Chimaera, to bring him home.

Peridea May Be The Origin Of The Force

Baylan Skoll believed he was attempting to end the ceaseless war between the light and dark aspects of the Force, and he claimed this had begun on Peridea - suggesting this planet is even more important than it seems. His theories were apparently confirmed in the Mortis gods. These three mysterious beings are avatars of the different aspects of the Force, underscoring Peridea's significance.

Significantly, one of the statues had been badly damaged - the one dedicated to the Daughter, the avatar of the light side of the Force. This may well indicate Peridea is a vergence in the Force that has been corrupted by the dark side. ing this theory, there are physical similarities between the Nightsisters and the Son, the avatar of the dark side. It is entirely possible this is indeed the place where the balance of the Force was first disrupted.

Ahsoka Season 2 Will Continue To Explore Peridea

Lucasfilm has recently confirmed Ahsoka season 2 is in development. Little is currently known of the forthcoming season, but Lucasfilm released a sketch by showrunner Dave Filoni teasing that Peridea's mysteries would continue to be explored. Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren - who were left stranded on Peridea - are shown alongside the same statues Baylan discovered. Whatever Baylan's quest may be, therefore, they will be attempting to catch up with him.

Baylan believed Grand iral Thrawn was not merely attempting to escape Peridea; rather, he was convinced Thrawn - and the last three Nightsister Great Mothers, also exiled there - was fleeing something. If this is the case, Ahsoka season 2 could well unlock an ancient mystery of the Force, something unlike anything seen in Star Wars to date.
