Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws follows a scoundrel, Kay Vess, as she embarks on a daring adventure that takes her across the Outer Rim, dealing with some of the galaxy's most ruthless criminal organizations in a bid to earn her freedom after one of the galaxy's major crime lords, Sliro, puts a bounty on her head. To do so, Kay explores the land on her trusty speeder and takes to the skies in her starship, The Trailblazer.
Screen Rant's Rob Keyes visited Ubisoft Toronto and spoke to Star Wars: Outlaws' Narrative Director Navid Khavari about where the inspiration for the Star Wars franchise's latest ship came from, and what goes into deg a new hero ship in a series that's already full of so many iconic ones. As it turns out, the team at Massive Entertainment turned to not just the original movies for inspiration, but its classic merchandise, namely the impressive toy line of the 80s, with Khavari saying the following:
Navid Khavari: For The Trailblazer, I mean, there are so many different inspirations. I think if I'm quoting our art director here, but the sort of turtle shell was a big element that felt, incorporating that, it was sort of some of the toys from the '80s, and fusing that all together into a ship that we knew would need to feel like the home of Kay. Kind of feels like if you're a scoundrel, your ship is your home because you're a traveler. Right?

Trailblazer Is A Major Part Of Star Wars Outlaws' Open-World Gameplay
With Seamless Transitions From Planets Into Open-Space Combat
It's long been confirmed that The Trailblazer will play a major part in Star Wars Outlaws' gameplay, with the first gameplay reveal for the title showing Kay escaping her enemies on her speeder before jumping aboard the ship and seamlessly soaring into the sky and diving into space combat. Considering Star Wars Outlaws is being marketed as a massive open-galaxy experience, The Trailblazer isn't just for daring chase sequences, however, and players will be able to treat it as their base, with Khavari stating that it needed to feel like Kay's home.
As teased in the August 22nd The announcement that accompanied the game's story trailer also revealed that while there were the expected outfits available for Kay, there would also be some cosmetics for her vehicles too, giving players the chance to customize the new starship with patterns resembling that of the Millenium Falcon with the Kessel Runner pack that is available as the pre-order bonus, and several others that can be unlocked in the game.
The Trailblazer can also be upgraded and customized in more practical ways, boosting speed or making its weapons even more powerful as Kay gathers more items from jobs and vendors across the Outer Rim. Fortunately, players won't have to wait too much longer to get hands-on with The Trailblazer, as Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 30, with those who pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate Edition or are subscribed to Ubisoft+ being able to play it three days early.
