Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What's the best way to watch Star Wars? Here's everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
Osha & Mae Are Twins Were Brought Up In A Coven Of Witches
The Daughters of Mothers Aniseya and Koril
Raised by a coven of Force-using witches on Brendok, Osha and Mae are the daughters of a Zabrak named Koril and the coven's leader Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith). Exiled and feared for their unconventional gifts, this new Force cult in The Acolyte was determined to keep the existence of Osha and Mae a secret from the rest of the galaxy, particularly from the Jedi Order and its knights stationed nearby on the world. However, Masters Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin learned of the girls's existence on the night of Osha and Mae's ascension ceremony where they would be officially inducted into their coven.
However, Osha had doubts about becoming a witch, expressing interest in becoming a Jedi instead after she was tested. This angered Mae, who darkly said she would kill Osha rather than let her leave. After Mae locked Osha in their room and set a fire, Osha escaped only to find their entire compound on the verge of destruction. While Mae seemingly fell to her death, Osha was saved by Jedi Master Sol and taken to be trained as a Jedi, her coven having fallen to ruin. However, Osha was told that Mae's fire alone was the sole cause of the coven's demise.
Unable to reconcile her anger and loss, Osha eventually left the Jedi Order, only to be brought back in The Acolyte's present-day episodes, having been originally targeted by the Jedi before clearing her name and the discovery that Mae was alive. Seemingly serving a Sith master, Mae is on a crusade of revenge to kill the Jedi who were on Brendock, having already killed Indara and Torbin by the end of The Acolyte episode 2. However, The Acolyte episode 3 also features some huge reveals for the Star Wars canon regarding the nature of Osha and Mae's conception.
Osha & Mae Were Conceived By The Power Of The Force
The Same Power Wielded By Darth Plagueis
The Acolyte episode 3 also reveals the unconventional nature of Osha and Mae's birth. During the ascension ceremony, Aniseya reveals Osha and Mae had no father. Instead, they were created by Aniseya's power through the Force and carried in Koril's existing womb. Conceding that many see their ability to create life as "unnatural", it's heavily teased that Aniseya's power is the very same wielded by Darth Plagueis the Wise, the Sith master of Darth Sidious/Palpatine. As such, the implication is that Plagueis will learn (or has already learned) how to influence the midi-chlorians to create life from this coven of witches.
That said, it's important to note that this is not a case of a preceding Chosen One prophecy before the existence of Anakin Skywalker. It's simply the origins and backstory behind the power of Darth Plagueis to manipulate the midi-chlorians and create life. After all, the idea that Plagueis or Palpatine triggered Anakin's conception is nothing more than a theory and idea George Lucas changed his mind about following early drafts of Revenge of the Sith. Likewise, The Acolyte episode 3 also suggests that this Force power is limited to the creation of females alone.
It's Possible Osha & Mae Are Part Of A Force Dyad
"Always One, But Born As Two"
That being said, it does feel quite likely that Osha and Mae will eventually be revealed as a Force dyad. As seen with Rey Skywlker and Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy, a Force dyad was a unique and unbreakable bond that ties two beings as one in the Force. The bond was extremely rare and powerful, often bringing together both the light and the dark side of the Force together.
To that end, the rhyme told by the coven and repeated by Osha and Mae in The Acolyte feels very much like it could be connected to the overall Force dyad concept: "Always one, but born as two". Despite their paths diverging and being respectively predominated by the light and dark, they're not being thrust back together in ways that may start blurring the lines as they begin to come one once more. As such, the idea that Mae and Osha are a dyad in the Force feels extremely likely.
How Osha & Mae's Story Fits Into Star Wars Canon
Tying To The Legacy Of The Sith (In More Ways Than One)
This ability to create life wielded by Mother Aniseya is clearly how Sith like Darth Plagueis learned to create life through the Force. It intrinsically ties Mae and Osha's origins to the legacy of the Sith Lords. Their potential as a Force dyad could also be very important to the Sith. After all, generations of Sith Lords canonically sought to fashion a dyad themselves to achieve greater power. As such, finding a means to use both Mae and Osha could become a goal of this mysterious, helmeted Sith Lord in The Acolyte's present-day episodes whose true identity remains as-of-yet hidden.
