The popular Star Wars MMORPG, Legacy of the Sith was revealed in July, promising not only a continuation of Malqus' storyline but a visit to the aquatic planet of Manaan, as well as new Combat Styles, which should help players bring a new level of customization and individuality to their characters.

Long-time players of The Old Republic will be very familiar with Darth Malqus, as he has served for some time as an aide to Dark Side players. At one point in one of the game's operations, players could defeat Darth Malqus, but he was revived later on, and remains a consistent presence in the game. This has been a point of frustration for some fans; there are those who believe that Darth Malqus represents a villain problem in SWTOR. These players believe that, given the considerable amount of lore available for The Old Republic, BioWare has many interesting options for villains, and shouldn't have to rely so heavily on one single Sith lord.

Regardless of these complaints, Malqus is coming back. A recent livestream hosted on the characters to meet in Legacy of the Sith. The expansion will mark the beginning of BioWare's plans to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary when it releases on December 14th; these celebrations will continue throughout 2022.

The story content highlighted by this livestream is not the only new material coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare has promised numerous changes to the game, including the aforementioned Combat Styles, which expand on the restrictive Advanced Class mechanics players are likely more used to. This new form of character progression also limits RNG, another sore point for players of the game. Legacy of the Sith will also feature UI upgrades, which is another key Star Wars: The Old Republic which will be arriving in the new expansion.

Even if players were hoping for a different antagonist than Darth Malqus, this expansion should still provide plenty of content for players to get excited about. The new content in Manaan and Elom will give fans new otherworldly vistas to explore, and the updated Combat Styles should allow them to expand their player character options in many new ways. When December 14th rolls around, players will get a chance to explore this ancient galaxy in a brand new way.
