Rey Skywalker's Star Wars story by taking inspiration from a 2019 story. The release year of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker included many other sequel trilogy era tie-in stories, one of which was the Age of Resistance comic series. Each story focused on a different character from the sequels, and unsurprisingly, Rey's is the subject that could tie so well into New Jedi Order.

Rey was raised as a scavenger in service to Unkar Plutt, after being dropped off on Jakku at age six, and this element of her story has manifested itself in several ways across her later adventures. From her salvaging knowledge of ships and technology helping her fly the Millennium Falcon to navigating around the wreckage of the Death Star II with her scavenging skills, her past has been crucial to her development. This background, however, could also be the motivation for her entire mission as the powerful Jedi leader of the New Jedi Order.

Rey's Pit-Stop Mission During The Force Awakens

Age Of Resistance - Rey

Rey's Age of Resistance story, written by Tom Taylor with art by Ramon Rosanas, tells the story of an adventure she went on during Star Wars: The Force Awakens. According to this comic, during the film's epilogue, Rey doesn't go directly from D'Qar to Ahch-To, but instead makes a very quick pit-stop to fix the Falcon on a junk planet known as Necropolis. There, she meets an alien named Ara-Nea and his underlings, and is charged 500 credits to scavenge on his planet.

How Old Is Rey In Each Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Movie

Rey is the young hero in the Star Wars sequel trilogy who takes up Luke Skywalker’s mantle, but how old is she really in each of the movies?

Rey begrudgingly pays, but quickly realizes that the scavenging zone is deadly, and narrowly escapes a giant monster. Upon reaching Ara-Nea again, the spider-like being exclaims that Rey's escape should have been impossible, and Rey figures out that the entire situation was a trap. She then uses the Force to mind-trick Ara-Nea into surrendering, freeing his enslaved workers – all before arriving on Ahch-To to find Luke.

Rey Should Be Freeing The Oppressed Across The Galaxy

Her Scavenging Experience Should Be A Motivator

Rey's backstory gives her a unique perspective on the galaxy that makes for a good Jedi. She knows the plight of the oppressed, those in the galaxy who are stuck in situations they can't physically get out of themselves, and should help them! Now that the First Order is defeated, and presumably the threat of the Sith along with it, Rey has an entire galaxy out there full of people who need a champion, like those on Necropolis did.

Rey's New Jedi Order Can Be What The Jedi Always Should Have Been

Tying Back To Anakin's Original Hope

This idea of standing up for oppressed and enslaved peoples poses an entirely new and reformed agenda for the Jedi Order, too. One of the main issues that the old Jedi Order had, as communicated in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, is that they are too separated from the people of the galaxy. They are in haughty towers on Coruscant instead of among the normal people in the galaxy, fighting for them. In fact, this idea ties even more into the original desire of a young Anakin Skywalker in that same film.

Anakin Skywalker Betrayed His Phantom Menace Dream - But Leia Fulfilled It

Anakin forgot his dream from The Phantom Menace of freeing all the slaves on Tatooine, but Leia inadvertently fulfilled it in Return of the Jedi.

Anakin was a slave, and his dream was to become a Jedi and return to Tatooine to free them all, which he was never able to do. Qui-Gon himself says that he wasn't on Tatooine to free slaves, something he could've done with Shmi as well as Anakin with the backing of the Jedi Order and his powers behind him. With Rey's New Jedi Order and her motivations and background, freeing enslaved people or those indentured into servitude could be the perfect objective in a newly freed Star Wars galaxy.

The tenth mainline installment in the Star Wars franchise is the first movie to follow the sequel trilogy, where Mark Hamill's Luke, Carrie Fisher's Leia, and Harrison Ford's Han Solo gave their final farewell. After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, development on a direct sequel had become dormant as Disney shifted focus on other parts of the galaxy, namely, Disney+ shows such as The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka. However, a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
