Disney making their money back following their huge $4.05 billion purchase.

It's now been 7 years since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, in which time they've released a full sequel trilogy and two anthology movies, many of which have proved to be extremely divisive. For all Lucas was maligned by Star Wars fans towards the end of his tenure after the Prequels, many now wish he'd never sold the company at all. But what would Star Wars look like if he hadn't?

Also worth consideration is where exactly spin-off films would factor into Lucas' plans for the series, if there were to be any at all. While Solo: A Star Wars Story did not quite reach that same level. However, Lucas himself had reportedly been developing a spin-off movie about Han Solo with Lawrence Kasdan prior to selling Lucasfilm, so it's possible this still would've been made, although it likely would've had a very different outcome, but perhaps no less controversial, since fans weren't sold on the idea to begin with.

On the TV front, it was already a given that there was more story to tell from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and surely Lucas and Dave Filoni would have given fans the conclusion they so desperately hoped for. The series was abruptly cancelled following the Disney acquisition, but as of San Diego Comic Con 2018, Disney did announce that The Mandalorian, so it's likely that would've happened much sooner than 2019 as well.

Had George Lucas kept Star Wars for himself not only would the franchise appear far different from what it looks like today, but the rate at which audiences received Star Wars content would surely be much slower comparatively. Many of the characters and worlds Disney has provided fans with would not exist, instead being replaced by ones from the mind of Lucas, for better or worse, although Lucas' own sequel trilogy would've been controversial too.
