The fan-favorite Starkiller from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has gotten a makeover pulled straight out of the classic Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series. Players were first introduced to Galen “Starkiller” Marek in 2008’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, where he initially served the dark side as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice. During a clandestine mission in which Starkiller was tasked with gathering the Empire’s enemies, he instead rebelled against his master and ultimately sacrificed himself to ensure the survival of the fledging Rebel Alliance.
Despite The Force Unleashed no longer being a part of the canon Star Wars timeline, fans continue to make impressive fan art of the powerful Sith apprentice-turned-unlikely hero. One such example was recently shared by Ky1eKatarn, who tweeted artwork from Samuel Deats (director of the animated Castlevania series on Netflix). This now-viral image pictures what Starkiller would look like if he was rendered in the style of Genndy Tartakovsky’s short-lived Star Wars: Clone Wars miniseries of 2003. This series of animated shorts served as a bridge between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and has remained popular with fans even after the much more expansive Star Wars: The Clone Wars began airing in 2008.
Starkiller Looks Powerful In Clone Wars-Inspired Fan Art
Many Force Unleashed fans are anxiously waiting for Starkiller to be made canon in a new Star Wars series or game, even as other elements from LucasArts' games have begun creeping into Disney’s official timeline. The iconic General Rahm Kota from The Force Unleashed was mentioned in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Starkiller’s infamous Sith Stalker armor can be seen in the background in the recent Andor series. However, Starkiller himself remains non-canon, despite his voice actor Sam Witwer expressing interest in reprising the role in a live-action Star Wars production.
In any case, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller translates well to the style of 2003’s Clone Wars miniseries, as evidenced by Samuel Deats' stunning artwork of the anti-hero standing in a darkened battlefield with his trademark reverse lightsaber grip in hand. This isn’t the first time that Starkiller was rendered in an animated style either, as the original Star Wars: The Force Unleashed included an unlockable skin based on the CGI Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.
Samuel Deats' Clone Wars-inspired Starkiller fan art has already been viewed and shared countless times, but it's nice to see it doing the rounds once again. Clone Wars-inspired fan art of KOTOR's Revan also drew attention earlier in the year, showing love for Genndy Tartakovsky's art style is still strong. Fans are enjoying the sight of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’s resident antihero in the style of the equally beloved Star Wars: Clone Wars series, even as they wait patiently for Starkiller to make his return to the galaxy far, far, away in a future Star Wars project.
