An outstanding Star Wars movies, and fans had been waiting 10 years for a new live-action duel when The Force Awakens came out in 2015. Even more astounding than the duels themselves is the creative ways so many cosplayers and photographers capture the magic of lightsabers in their own way.

The Legion of Cosplayers Instagram page posted a truly incredible recreation of Rey and Kylo Ren's lightsaber duel back in 2017, just two months before the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

Curiously, this version of the duel shows Kylo Ren wearing his helmet, unlike the original scene where his face is visible. Perhaps this takes inspiration from the movie's first teaser trailer, which showed Kylo Ren with his hood up as he prepared for battle in the snowy forest.

Rey Vs. Kylo Ren Is Still One Of The Most Visually Striking Star Wars Duels

The cinematography and lighting are superb

Although Rey defeating Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens has led to heated debate among fans, there's no denying that their duel is one of the most visually stunning moments in Star Wars. J.J. Abrams and his team's ability to capture flashing blue and red lights, plenty of snow, and the character's facial expressions in such detail at night is breathtaking. Every lightsaber strike feels like it carries weight, and the sense of imminent danger amplifies the scene's impact. The use of slow-motion and careful editing to highlight Rey connecting with the Force is another standout moment.

Even after almost 10 years of live-action Disney Star Wars projects, few movies or TV shows have come close to matching the sheer beauty of Rey and Kylo Ren's first lightsaber duel. The duel with the Praetorian Guards in The Last Jedi is also visually striking, but a lightsaber battle representing the conflict between light and dark will always be special. With Rey's New Jedi Order movie set to release in the next few years, hopefully Star Wars will provide another lightsaber duel worthy of the one seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
